W208 430 CLK hood issue

My neighbour's son in law, Lawrence, has a 430 CLK. After lending it to a friend the hood is now stuck closed and he asked me if I knew how to get it working again.

Obviously I don't but any inspiration or clues to help- it's a 51 reg so I would have thought prime age for lots of things to go wrong.

What happens when he tries to lower the hood?

A little more information would help

Fuses
Hydraulics, including pump, would be where i would start.

In the manual is instructions on how to retract it manually.

Just had an update from Laurence - fuses all checked, all fine. Windows are going down when the button pressed but nothing else, no sound of motors etc. We discussed it and plan to get it into Terry at Wayne Gates for a check.
