Hi guys
Got another problem on my clk55 w208 2000
It says lamp defective on dashboard and the headlights pointing down
Plugged to a machine at local indi and it showed headlight range adjustment, and gives the part number for that but the indi says its the levelling motors in the lights

Can both motors brake down in the same time or is it just the headlight range adjustment module.
As I really doubt that not levelling motors can break at the Same time I guess it's the module under the dashboard on passenger side.
Any advices and suggestions would be very much appreciated
Thanks

Hi,
The likely hood of both levelling motors failing is highly unlikely, it could be the range adjustment ECU in the passenger footwell, but it is most likely the linkage on the front or rear driver side suspension, these are very very common to fail.
Check the front one first, it is fitted on the front of the upper wishbone, they are cheap to replace but do make sure you adjust the length of the linkage rod to the same as the broken one so the headlight alignment stays correct.

Even if the diagnostic machine says headlight range adjustment? Thanks for the tip ill check them tomorrow morning but could you tell me what shall I look for?
Thanks

The level sensors which the linkages operate feed the ECU with signals regarding the level of the vehicle, the ECU in turn instruct the levelling motors to do their thing. No signal from the sensor(s) then the levelling motors won't move.
When he was diagnosing this issue did he go into the ECU? as he should of been able to read the signals from the levelling sensors, by monitoring these signals in turn and bouncing the car on the suspension he should of been able to confirm their operation, did he bounce the suspension front and rear?
Regardless I would be looking here first and foremost as it is such a common issue for these linkages to corrode and snap, and it is very easy to confirm, as it will be obvious when you see it.
I have the WIS work instruction for installing the levelling system which describes in detail there location and installation indeed of the whole levelling system, though it is for a 202 it is identical to the 208, if you want it drop me PM.

Checked them and the front small link on a front driver side is snapped the rear one looks ok
So can it be that small link?

Reconnected the motor apparently when I tried to adjust it manually the small plastic rod slipped out of the motor
So reconnected that one but the problem still was there
And I think I found what's the problem is!
Apparently the water drain system on windscreen blocked and the water got inside as it was wet on a passenger side floor and I guess the ecu for the headlight got water damage ill replace that one and will see if that's will sort out the problem

Anyone please???? Has anyone had a problem with xenon headlights ecu
The star gives a part number for the ecu and I noticed that the water got in from blocked outside drain, right over where the ecu is fitted, but the ecu itself looks dry to me
Can it be something else? Can it be failed motors on a headlights itself?
