w208 speakers?

in mine it had the bose setup composing of tweeters 1" mids in front of the doors 6.5" rear fill speakers (in rear of doors) 4" and one free air sub between the rear seats which was approx 11"

The amp was located in the rear also.

Yes i upgraded all the wiring and added sound deadening to the doors and boot.

unit504 - Size of all the speakers (8 in total I believe?)

Do you need to upgrade any wiring or amp any of them?

Hi Unit504,

I've got a W208 Cabrio too, (standard audio, not Bose) and I'm sure that my sub is misbehaving. It doesnt seem as loud as I think it should be. Of course it could be working perfectly and I'm not giving it enough credit.....
I know the sub is in the backrest of the back seat somewhere, there is a small vent below the armrest and I can hear some low level low frequencies audio coming from it, but I cant for the life of me figure out how to get to it.
How hard is it to replace the speaker and/or amp?

Any pointers?

the sub in the cabrio (behind the centre armrest) is accessed by removing the rear seat backrest. Remove the seat base (just pull up firmly at the front & out it comes). The backrest is held in place by a bolt (10mm?) at either side near the bottom corners, plus a smaller 6mm one in the middle - these are visible once the seat base is out of the way. There are also two self tapping screws hidden from mortal man - pull the armrest down and then squeeze your fingers down the side of the flap at the rear of the armrest cubby hole and tug the top of the flap forward - it hinges at the bottom. The 2 self tappers are behind this flap. Once these are out the seat back lifts upwards off 2 clips at the top corners. You can then access the sub and the scary plastic horn that sits over it. Not too sure about the electrical gubbins attached to the sub - possibly a little amp or crossover. Throw the whole lot away & replace with a 8" sub and amp wired back to the head unit as normal (8" sub fits straight in) or a 10" sub which doesn't fit straight in and is a silly amount of work just to end up rattling the rear bulhead(s)...and unidentifiable trim...and roof...etc.

tweeter units

The foam located under the tweeter grille is probably accoustically transparent, similar to the material you used to get on the front of 80s audiophile speakers. I guess it could get a little clogged with dust over time, thus affecting the clarity of the driver units.
