The interior vents on both sides of the car need replacing, how much should I be looking to pay for a complete set second hand? they are about £65 each from MB.

Also - The volume control button on my steering wheel looks really nasty like some glu-ey substance is peeling off it. I've tried to get as much off as I can by hand but I believe its actually the coating on the button deteriorating, has anyone had anything like this before? Any advise?

Thanks guys

Ok; I've sorted out a new pair of interior vents (hopefully recieving them on tuesday/wednesday). But I've ripped apart my dash already in anticipation of there arrival! (and also to check if I actually did need new ones or if these were repairable)

Any ideas on the steering wheel buttons?

I have similar issues on my W211. It's like a bit of the cover paint has flaked off so at night the backlight shines through.

You can buy the buttons for mine separately, at a cost. I'm waiting for ebay, but they are very rare.

Could you stick some pictures of the vent and how to remove it as my vent next to the drivers window needs fixed and was wondering how you remove it.:dk:

I just replaced my passenger side vent. New vent cost £51 from Mercedes.

Quite easy really.

See this guide, although most of the steps aren't required!

The steering wheel buttons can be cleaned up with nail varnish remover.

Brilliant reply! Thanks for the guide for removing the vents. I did find one but not as good/thorough as that!

Edit - just realised this doesnt cover the drivers side but I've fiddled about with that and got it out anyway without needing to remove the panel trim on that side completely. Might still investigate removing it completely when it comes to installing the new one...

Also - Nail varnish remover (acetone). From experiance, this has ruined previous plastics. Whats the reason for using it here? Im worried it may damage the other plastics or the button next to it or maybe even the leather wheel itself.

Thanks.

Acetone is okay. I always dilute it with water.

Thanks, so is this a common problem?

1:1 dilution? Just keep rubbing it with a cloth till all the sticky cack goes?

Don't know if it's common but the steering wheel buttons on my CLK were covered in that sticky cack!

I used wet cotton wool pads and then just dabbed on the acetone to remove glue residue from a sticker on the rear window. I used the same method on the steering wheel buttons.

Awsome, thanks.

Glad to know im not the only one with that problem.

Fao anyone attempting this

Do not use nail varnish remover to try and solve this glue/residue/laquer peeling on the steering wheel buttons

Its just totally made a mess of mine. I diluted it and used a small amount on a cotton wool make up pad and it has ruined my button. Wish I never messed with it, now need to buy a replacement button/s :(

Pics :( :( :(

(Ignore the wonky footbrake level - the lower dash has been loosened up to remove some faulty vents)

oooh that's not good! Mine cleaned up okay. Maybe mine still had a few layers of lacquer on them.

Maybe, the worst part is it didnt even completely remove a lot of the glue residue/laquer. Just went straight through and made everything flake off.

go to your local mb and ask for a quote on the parts, its funny i havent had this happen on either of my benzes with steering wheel buttons .

From what i've heard there's a hefty price tag attached to these if you get them new (in the region of >£60-80)
