w210 220CDI 2001 no starting and engine fan on! PLEASE HELP

Hello Guys

not sure if im posting in the correct section! :doh:

Yesterday i went to move my 220CDI W210 that had been sitting for about 2 weeks !

Turned it on ! started and then got Three Failures one being "Visit Work shop engine fan malfunction!( the only one i noted) then the engine stopped its self! stupidly i turned it off the ignition before i could see what the other 2 malfunction were!

Tried to turn on the ignition again to try start and nothing would happen! the key would disengage the steering lock and all lights would come on, But no starter motor!

Now when i turn on the ignition the engine fan comes on but at full speed! ( my understanding is this happens with alot of things as kinda protection for the engine ) so left it and said i would look at it when i had free time too!

BUT went out last night to bring the bins out for collection! and heard the fan running with no keys in the ignition? :dk:

So disconnected the battery and now im asking you guys for some help!

Iirc think I've read on this forum that there is a connecter top right of the rad as you stand in front of the car! Which can short and cause all sorts of problems. Only a 2 pin plug iirc and gets crud on. Worth a look but sure some more experienced techs will be on soon.
 
I unpluged the fan and nothing happend! ( not sure if it will allow the engine to start with this unplugged !)

Also strange clicking from the ECU box!
 
if the auxiliary fan control unit had failed would it not allow the engine to start?
 
going to check the k40 tonight!
 
Checked k40 relay seams fine!! Anymore ideas guys?

Would the fan control mod stop it from starting?
 
Well removed all the ECU's and found the plugs had water in them? Not a clue how as it's in a sealed box? Add a big of silica gel for good measure...

So refitted after opening all the ECU's and ensuring they were dry and it started...
