Hi All,

Having been to the auction a research mission, however, it appears that I scratched my head at the wrong time and ended up picking a 2000 W210 E320 CDi, without checking it out.

This is a 6-12 month stop gap, hopefully longer... as its paid for.

Anyway, I have a couple of engine related isues:

1. I found that the car gives off a puff of black smoke when I accelerate. I do leave a cloud in the distance when I drive off.

2. When stopping and getting out there is a pungent smell, diesel like, so opening the bonnet I find that there is a black leak at the back of the engine just under the cover.

It looks and smells like diesel. Maybe some oil as well.

Having searched the forums, it appears that it maybe the Injector Seals as the cover is a 'oily' - obviously wiped, but there is evidence of oil on it.

The turbo appears to be performing fine.

The wife was complaining that everytime she touched the accelerator the deisel ticking sound was louder than her fathers C270 CDI, a bit like an older london cab.

Questions:

1. Any thoughts on these two issues?
2. What action should I take to safeguard things - I have been advised to replace the Turbo Breather and get the EGR Valve cleaned out.
3. Should I replace the thermostat with a newer one for performance?

Olly (Black C55) - I tried to send you a PM but your mailbox is full.

All advise welcome and greatly appreciated. :thumb:

Thanks in advance

Injector seals are a cheap enough fix.

If your wife is annoyed by ticking, it is, in all likelihood, caused by a split rubber boot at the bottom of the steering shaft where it goes through the firewall. I packed mine with fibreglass insulation and it transformed the car.
