W210 E240 catalyst replacement?

I've just had a look at a 99 E240 V6 facelifted W210. It drives nicely etc etc but there's a rattle from the exhaust near the engine which sounds to me like a knackered catalytic convertor. If that's the case, what would it cost to replace?

I also noticed the LCD temperature readout on the dashboard - either LCD or LED - had strips missing to make it unreadable.

it costs a fortune. at least £500 and above, except you go for patterned parts

The cats are £985 each for genuine items.

The LCD is an easy fix that's been covered on here a number of times.

And I thought my C43 cats were expensive @£1700 for the four of them.

Just had mine replaced on 02 E240 Elegance - £318 for the part, no labour charge (only had the car 4 weeks from non-franchised garage).

Someone had suggested it might be the heatshield, but it wasn't...

That cannot be an MB cat. mine was £1k and i have a c180. is it the after market, or the precat?

I contacted a local garage and he's quoted me £235 + VAT for a cat from a motor factor.
