mercedes e270 cdi
Hello mates!

today i took apart my inlet manifold on my e270 cdi, w210.

the car was in limphome with faultcode p1189.

It was a little oil in the presurehoose, and the EGR was completly full with black sh*t!

When i came to the inlet manifold i saw that only one rod was conected to the manifold engine. and one swirl flap had loosen and was laying in the engineblock.

I have now removed all flaps and will soon clean everyting and messure the engine, if its not broken, i maybe can connect it and let i be there without a rod connecter, or am i forced to disconnect the engine and buy a resistant insteed?

This is a picture on the egr valve ! - E270 insug

this is a picture on the manifold loose and everything striped - E270 insug

please help me :)

Kind regards Kim from sweden!

Hi Kim, Sorry I cannot help with this issue. Someone should be along soon who can.

(At least this post gets you back to the top of the forum again)

CHEERS and Good Luck.

John

You can run the motor without it being connected to the flaps.

As long as the motor can move there will be no error code.

Just to confirm.....These engines run very well without the flaps fitted, just fit bolts to blank off the flap pivot holes and refit the manifold and motor with the electric plug connected but leave the motor arm not connected to the flaps. (as dm says)

Hi guys ( and ladies) I know this has been done to death but ??

I can not actually find the answer,

I have a 2003 ML270 , can I just remove the arm, leaving the motor in place connected (so it does not think it is missing)

And leave the flaps in place ( why strip them out for the sake of it)

Please please somebody take the time to answer, many thanks

thank you, I will take a look this weekend hopefully.

I was confused as I have seen on BMW's they sell blanking plates so thought they needed to be closed (so was going to jam them in the closed position ) that is why I was somewhat confused.

The motor's arm is spring loaded and its default position keeps the flaps open, so based on your question, I would leave the motor in place with the arm still connected to the flaps (this will keep the flaps open) and then delete the operation of the motor by fitting a resistor to the ecu located under the bonnet (plenty of info on doing this if you do a search)

why strip them out for the sake of it

The flaps wear down and can potentially break up and be sucked into the engine, another problem is that the spindles, that the flaps pivot on, also wear out and allow turbo boost to escape past their seals.

Panason1c you are as always a gent, yet again you have fully explained to me and I now fully understand,

if you were based in Sussex I would pop over and buy you a pint :p

thanks for taking the time to explain fully.

I will look up the resister mod and get it done as I really do not fancy attempting to strip all of the flaps out.

Thanks again buddy :thumb:
