W210 E300TD engine oil spec.?

Can it be confirmed please that my engine oil is MB228.3? or is it MB229.1?
Also is it that higher the number the better oil, I.E 229.1 better than 228.3.

I don't have a maintainance booklet.

I have searched but couldn't find anything.

As you are running svo and i assume are changing the oil more often than normal fuel users i would just use any good mineral turbo diesel oil.

Hasnt got to be mb oil at all.

Must be a veg forum that would give a good answer based on experience?

yeah i'd agree with that, i change mine failry often and i use the halfords own brand diesel semi-synth 10w40. they usually have offers of free screwdriver sets or discounts with oil. downside you need to buy two containers of them as you need 7 litres and the container is 5.

guess how many screwdrivers i have! atleast i always can find one!

Thanks so far guys but I just want to know what the MB spec number it should be for my car.
I am changing oil at about 5k miles.

I would use a semi synthetic with a turbo, mineral can easily burn up under heat

I just checked my service booklet ('98 W210, 300TD) and it states 229.1 spec for engine oils
