E320 CDI Estate W210
Hi,

I wonder if anyone can shed some light on the problem i have.

I've had my E320 CDI estate for a few weeks now and have been happily using the radio.

Today i put some CD's in the CD changer in the boot and pressed the "CD" button for the first time.

All that happened is that the head unit said "No CD".

The unit is the one with a tape deck in the head unit and a 6cd changer in the boot.

The CD changer has power (a light comes on when you press eject) but it doesn't appear to work..

Has anyone got any tips to diagnose the problem or fix it?

Much appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my W215 when I bought it. I took the cd stacker out, after figuring out the optical connection, posted on here for reassurance when nothing worked at all (fibre optic bus, in series), and put the model number of the changer in Google. That led me to a firm down South - Car Audio Technics, advertising on eBay, who fix them for £75 including carriage.

Turn round was less than a week, they also say they can fix Comand units. They arent running the CD changer ad at the moment, but they are cat-essex01 on eBay. Best part was I got the £75 back from the dealer - I recon a sparks may have charged that just for taking the unit out and refitting it.

I finally got round to taking out the audio 10. Everything looked fine (no loose connections) apart from i couldnt see anything that resembled an optical fiber. A bit more of a poke around and i found a thick yellow wire with two LEDs on the end of it (on a rectangular piece of plastic).

Hmm i thought, i wonder if that pokes in there.

Sure enough, it did fit in there (a slot in the back of the head unit) and now the CD player works. Im very happy about that!

There is very little excess play in the optical fiber - i had to take out the climate control command to ensure i could get it in. This is most likely why it wasnt connected..

Anyway, good news.

Just noticed this thread :o

I had exactly the same happen on my old 320 cabrio .... NO CD was displayed , changer was powered up and you could hear it sort the cd's when you put a cassette in .

Fiddled around for ages before i realised that the lead that looked like it was connected to the climate control panel was in fact just tucked up there out of the way inside the console.

Bunged it into the back of the head unit , hey presto , it all worked.

Glad you got it sorted.

My tip...forget it...they are the worst units ever. Mine has never worked.

LOL! Well hopefully this thread will be informative for someone who encounters the problem.

I only got the car in December and im very dubious of what the previous owner has done with the center console. I've managed to fix the heater blower and the CD player now by just re-plugging in the connectors.
All cheap fixes which im very pleased about but i wonder what the hell the person who was last there was playing at. Its got a MB FSH so i hope it wasnt them.

Anyway, i'll get rouind to the thermostat change some day.....

Cheers,

Ringo

I'm glad it now works. Though you must admit most of these problems do not merely stem from the unit being disconnected.

I sometimes have this problem too. I eject the magazine and drive it in again, then works fine. Make sure that the connection screws of the changer in the boot is fixed strongly and nothing should apply pressure to the changer in the boot(luggage, bag etc.) otherwise the connection will be lost on the holes/bumps of the roads and you will have this problem even when the cd is playing....
