Hello all!
I've only just seen this post and I've got to say that I've had no problems running my Vito 111 on chip fat at all!
If you've seen any of my other posts you'll notice that I'm not particularly mechanically sensitive but I agree with some folks on here as you could probably presume that Africans in particular will come up with all sorts of concoctions to run an engine so I presume they'll be fine.
Anyhow, my two penn'orth: I run my Vito on straight chip fat in summer, cooked through or not and in winter I tend to use a third chip fat to two thirds diesel as in my mind it avoids gelling up. Funnily enough it seems to run better when it has used chip fat in rather than fresh stuff from Tesco and I've never experienced any difference in performance or fuel economy.
I think at a conservative estimate it's done 50000 miles on chip fat.
I just make sure I strain the bits out of the fat and let it settle for a week or two before tipping it in the tank. I was scared witless the first time I did it but in true TG fashion it started first kick and ran fine...................with the exception of smelling like a chipoil!
A note to the wise though, I tried to run the Mrs' Pug on it and it used to run fine on a 70:30 mix but as soon as I tried neat stuff it wouldn't shift - the fuel pump wouldn't lift it out of the tank. That was a messy job siphonong it out but after filling up with diesel again it ran fine. Shortly after that I got rid of the ffrench nonsense and bought her a W210 but petrol.....
Just my opinion of course, if you put it in your tank and it ends up scrap then don't come crying to me! ;P
