W210 E430 for those technical minded

Soo we could probably guess it isn't the throttle pot. That leaves, throttle body actuator, ECU or wiring fault.

I'll mail him and see what codes he has.;)

If was an easy fix surely the car dealers who had it or it's new owner would have cured it?

I sense that the car has a costly problem?

Of course, let's just see if he admits it.;)

It's either the ECU or wiring fault. ECU probably costs a few quid and dodgy wiring can be a nightmare to fix without a diagram..

It wouldn't surprise me if the throttle body actuator has shorted out the ECU driver, maybe they've already fitted a new ECU and it's gone pop again...

From the original advert..
"The front bumper is missing the toeing eye cap and a light mark on all corners."

Now if I was being cynical that would indicate it was towed due to being broken down and that it probably happened before they bought the car.....so I don't think it failed in their tenure at all.
Guess what, it's still missing.

As stated in the listing "I believe the component pictured is at fault, but I'm not a mechanic and can't guarantee this. The part is small about 3 inches by 2 and would remove very easily"

If its that easy, then why hasn't it been replaced !!!!.....surely his statement would make people run a mile and those that are daft enough to buy the car unseen, are clearly Insane in the Membrane!

He's copied the text from the advert of the original seller ;)

I've had some feedback from the seller. He claims to be a Financial advisor (groan) so no mechanic.
His friends have said it's probably the ECU so he has had it tested and it's Ok.

His next thought is throttle pot...
The car starts and moves no problem but only at idle, it just won't rev.
when started the BAS-ABS-ESP lights come on but go off when driving. This was mentioned in the first advert.

Now here is the crux of this post....
I was possibly interested in this car just for a bit of fun, but am not really, BUT I have an idea relating to the fault which if correct it would be a dead cheap fix.
If anyone is interested let me know and I might be able to find time to go and have a look at the car later in the week.

I don't want to pass the fix idea on in an open post due to it being available to non club members..but think about those lights..;)

Are you thinking of a certain switch? I wouldnt have thought it to have caused these problems?

I can't help thinking this car must have been sent to be diagnosed by it's original owner, the traders who brought it to flog on ebay and who ever it is trying to sell it now, and what ever it needs not for the faint hearted or those weak of wallet...

It'll knock out the accellerator function until you go for kickdown....

Alternatively I wonder about the wheel speed sensors but it doesn't work when stationary either...so I don't see that..

He can't drive it so took the ECU off and had it tested...

His reply seems genuine enough.

I could go and have a look and put the engine under load to see if it corrects the idle. That would show the throttle body and ECU to be working on the output side at least.

Akash
As you seem a bit interested I've had another thought...still those lights.;)

Think about what happens if the car goes into a skid......

Update.
I just checked and think it's getting a bit dangerous in value terms now...
