I was just wondering if anyone on here owns the silver E55 AMG (W210) that sits near Tantallon Castle just outside North Berwick. I always look at it every time I drive past but it doesn't ever seem to move. :(

I remember years ago going down to NB with a friend who was looking at a W126 500SEL .

The car was parked in front of a very run down hotel , and was even more dilapidated than the building , despite the vendor wanting top money for it - of course we left after a few minutes .

Nowadays , the building stands empty with shutters over the windows , I wonder ....

Good thing I never stopped to speak to him then haha! I was going to chap on his door and ask about it but it's been sitting for years, so being a W210 will probably be currently held together with tape!

Thats a shame about the SEL, I think I know the hotel you mean but can't remember the name of it.

We had a few days at The Marine Hotel last year. Very comfortable with superb views over the links but I felt that even that hotel has seen better days. We really like North Berwick, though.

Yeah the Marine is a Macdonald hotel and is a good one with a nice view but you're right, last time I was there it was a bit out of date.

The one I mean is down the road past Greggs the bakers .

Yes , I used to deliver to the Marine Hotel in my youth ; my outstanding memory of it , though , was it being mobbed by crowds outside , eager to catch a glimpse of Brigitte Bardot , who was staying there .

Perhaps , back in the early 1960's , North Berwick truly rivalled St. Tropez as a holiday destination for the jet set ? We certainly kept our caravan at Thorntonloch , just the other side of Dunbar , throughout the sixties , although the site is now overshadowed by Torness power station :(

Ahh okay I know the one you mean. Yeah North Berwick and Dunbar used to be fantastic and popular holiday destinations, not so much anymore. I stay a couple of miles from Thorntonloch, in Oldhamstocks. You soon get used to the site of Torness!

Although at that time from West Lothian , we kept our caravan at Thorntonloch most of the year and went down on weekends ( sometimes taking it to Carnoustie or elsewhere for a change ) , but both Dunbar and NB were fantastic holiday destinations with endless sunshine in the summers , or so it seems now .

The demise of the area must only be due to cheap foreign holidays ( not my preference ) and it is sad to see some of the places so run down - the worst must be the huge hotel at the east end of Dunbar which has been derelict for years .

At least you'll get Flying Scotsman passing through again in a few weeks :D
