w210 fan noisey

Hi


Ive had a little problem pop up on my e300td.
The fan seems to be alot louder( sounds like its heavy if that makes sense?) , When i accelerate .

I had some one look at it and he said i need two parts


MA606 200 01 23 FAN COUPLING £34
MA606 200 01 22 N/STOCK FAN DRIVE £ 200
+ VAT

The fan doesnt move freely when the eninge is switched off.

any advice please.

Having checked out your part numbers on the Russian parts site,
606 200 01 23 is listed as the fan itself
606 200 01 22 is the viscous coupling

Stiffness with engine off is almost certainly the coupling.

The viscous coupling commonly needs replacement.
What is supposed to be wrong with the fan ?
Unless it's actually broken, I can't see it needing replacing.
Try Euro Car Parts for the coupling.
They may have a better price.

The parts are not particulartly difficult to fit.

There are a number of knowledgeable contributors to this forum who say that these cars are over-cooled anyway, so you can take off the fan and coupling and run without.
I'm certainly going to try it.

Do think ill be getting a new fan blade,
euro do the viscous coupling for £67 so i am going to order that in!

Garage said hed do it for £20 so i wont bother geting my hands dirty!

Going to get him to change the fan belt.

£20 is a VERY good price.
Might as well change the belt while you're in there.
Then you can carry the old belt as a spare.
