Well. Its been 2 months with my my car so far and Im so in love with it. There is one thing that spoils my pleasure of driving. SOUND VOLUME AND QUALITY.

Im happy with command unit and I would like to keep it (safety & funcanality). I really like factory llok and built-in SAT NAV. I like to listen music a little bit louder then factory system can provide. What I would like to do is? I should as I dont want to spend to much (because I cant at the moment :()

1. Change speaker/s as one on n/s front is blowing and sound terrible. I have spare set but Im not in a rush to change them as I want to do it once and in proper way.

2. I would like to add a sub. I dont need huge bass so I would like to put flat active sub in my back storage as I need to keep back of my estate free for my dog.

Questions:
1. Is there a way to connect active sub to existing system and still keeping the same number of speakers?
2. If I upgrade speakers (only) will it be louder/better then factory system? Do I need to add extra amp for those speakers?

Like I said. I dont want/need to go crazy. Just want to re-fresh this sound system.

Regards.

Anyone?

Are you DEAF :D;)

I find the system more than adequate, just gets a bit distorted at the higher end

Week ago I took my wife for a nice ride in it with music we usualy play and when I was crusing she turned it all the way and she looked at me and said: "Is that all?".

I really like to push it a little harder when Im in a mood for that. After all its a Merc - Car with heart and spirit.

You need one that goes up to 11.

I said - "Say what?"

Most amps only go to ten , you need one that goes to eleven .... it's one louder.

I dont think I have amp in mine so Im still looking for options to improve sound quality as well as well installing additional sub with amp (I have spare kit from old car).

You could buy a blaupunkt Class D plug and play amp, the THA-555 will give you 4 channels at 55w and a sub channel at 120w, plus it comes with a harness so you undo the main connector and plug the bluapunkt one between them and that is it, job done.

They are very good little amps but they can interfere with FM reception as all Class D amps can.

The other option is to add a Vibe Litebox, this is a Class GH amp and it very good, very small and will take a hi level signal too, so you just stick it in line of yoru front speakers.
You would need their sub amp too if you needed a sub, but once you have the fronts driven properly you would probably be happy.

The Merc head units all vary in quality sound wise with the NTG2.5 Audio 20 being the best, followed by the old Audio 20 and then the NTG2.5 nav and lastly the older comand.

The newer ones are more detailed and warmer sounding, I have just swapped my NTG2.5 Audio 20 with a Comand and the difference is not subtle.

The NTG2.5 Audio 20 was good, very good in fact, now I have comand I am going to have to put an amp in, it just sounds shrill at the volume I want to listen to it at, with the bass on +4 and the treble on -1 it sounds better, but now the mids are a little muddled.
