I need to change the dark-coloured trims at the sides of the front and rear windows of one of our W210 E-Class cars.
Rust is breaking out on two of them and looks unsightly.
See photo.
Two cross-head screws can be seen on the edges of the panels when you open the front door.
However, there are rubber seals at the top and bottom of the panel.
The rubber seal at the edge of the window glass also appears to be attached in some way.
Do they simply lift off when the screws are removed ?
Are there any tricks to this ?
I don't want to commence the job and wish I'd never started.:(
Any words of guidance will be much appreciated.

I can't imagine why they should ever go rusty in the first place !!

As well as the screws they are stuck on, but can be prised off with care.

Thanks DM.
I was afraid that might be the case.
As you can guess, I'm transferring them from my "old friend" to replace the scruffy ones on the new E430.
I presume that the rubber seals are self-explanatory as the panel comes off.

I have the same trouble with mine.
They look like they had a carbon fibre type print on them.
I have bought some vinyl to re-cover them.

But should I cover or just paint them gloss black?

I've got the carbon fibre look trim on my B Post trims, the rear left one has peeled off a bit at the bottom of the post, can you get this stuff to recover the posts?

I bought some vinyl off Ebay from Japan, but it looks a little glossy.
As the car is 8 years old I don't know how it looked to start with.
The original looks like a paint effect rather than a vinyl.
I just was asking for opinion to see if others have recovered or repainted.

The photo at the top is of a different car.
I am breaking a crash-damaged E300TD car for spares and will try to get the panels off.
I'll try removal from the damaged car before I have a go at the car I am keeping (just in case I cannot get them off without damaging them)
I'll let you know how I go on.
The patterning on them is quite-subtle.
I'm not even sure, yet, that they are all the same across the 3 cars that we have.

I will be interested to find out how you get on.

Good luck

Hi John any joy with removing the trims?

Interested in how easy it is?
