W211 E220 CDI injector issue

How much do you think it will cost. And is it worth keeping the car because of its mileage?

Well you wont know until its been cleaned up exactly how many injectors are leaking and whats needed to get them out undamaged or needing overhauling.

I have seen some as bad as yours costing @ £250

I have seen some not as bad as yours @ £500

It all depends whats under that mess and that can take hours to remove.

If you want to save some cost, clean as much of that gunk off as you can

How could i start to remove the stuff myself

As above use a screwdriver to chip away what you can on a cold engine. If its warm it will be guey

By the way the car is a 53 plate e220 cdi. It has about 280 000 miles and i have just spent about £600 doing the clutch, front wheel bearing and steering wheel ball valves. And now i need to get rid of all this black stuff. My dad has owned the car for 4 years and has now passed it on to me as he has bought the newer one. Do you guys think the car can still do me well considering i do 250 miles a week to work and back. I hope to keep it for another two years. Tia

I find that the 'tar' comes away much easier using a screwdriver as a lever and with a warm/hot engine.

I have heard that pouring a bottle of coke over it can work wonders....

Stretch bolt torque is 7Nm plus two lots of 90°; but your first problem is getting rid of the black gunge. Unless you're happy with DIY, I'd take it to an indie.

Despite the name and the appearance, this isn't that serious a problem. I've had two seals fail, one of them twice (after a main dealer fixed it the first time).

Can someone explain how this works please?

First tighten the bolt to 7Nm torque (it's very little!). Then turn bolt 90 degrees more tighter, and again. Done. Generally Angle tightening is used sometimes with stretch bolts.

As the initial torque is so low, it's clear that if the thread is not fully clean torque value triggers too early and final holding force is not reached. Also if there is something at the bottom of the hole, it will penetrate to water jacket...
