Hi all

Finally got my E500 Sport from MB and what a car it is!

The stock system is rather excellent and the car has command, but I have a load of JL Audio kit from my collection over the years and was wondering whether I could change them?

The car has MB warranty so I certainly don't want to void anything, but I don't mind getting the cards off, dynamatting discretely and fitting some new speakers.

I have JL Audio VR, XR, C2 and C3 speakers in my stock. I am guessing 6.5" front and rear? If so I'll probably just fit C2 components front and rear assuming the crossovers will mount behind the door!

Anyone done this? Haven't checked yet but are the rears components?

I am not really interested in changing the factory amp (even though I have loads of JL amps lol) but was hoping a speaker change would brighten the mid range a bit.

Advice appreciated, including sizes.

Cheers all

Hi,

I have W211 and have done a full front upgrade..

Unfortunately you only have 68mm depth to clear glass and this will require you making an MDF baffle to sit behind speakers as the factory baffle is cheap plastic and wont hold the aftermarket (bigger) drivers. Speaker size is 6.5" for both front and rear, front tweeters sit behind the mirror blank and fairly easy to remove and replace.

Are you looking to Amp these? If so, thats where your biggest problem will be. Your car runs MOST system which doesnt give any input for any amps so you will have to cut into existing speaker cables to get high level input and then de-equalise it and use for amps.

I have used Bitone for this and it works perfectly.

Let me know if you need any further info.
