W211 E55 with a few faults

The car does have the optional cornering headlights and split rear folding seats :D

Also the horn in the engine bay is bent.

Has this forum ever recommended a car?

We're all great at picking them apart, it's almost like a competition.

I disagree with a few points mentioned above.

-No E55K has really been thrashed, they are just way too fast for uk roads.
-Without further inspection, the presumptions of clocking aren't necessarily true.

I would have it plugged on STAR and see what readout you get.
Take it for a thorough test drive and make the guy a cheeky offer.

I just think it may be worth some more investigation than the instant writing off that this forum seems to do.

+1 agree, it would take some driving to thrash these beasts, but abuse would be obvious. star and visual.

Ive taken a keen interest in both E55 and CL55K for sometime and if i had the spare cash id be seriously looking into buying one.

As i dont have money at present i havent spent time investigating something i cant afford but i do have a question

I know the CL55K was introduced in 2003 and replaced the CL55

Is the E55 also a kompressor. Looking on ebay they seem to be referred to as E55 and not E55K and has lower power compared to the CL55K

The W211 is the supercharged V8, the W210 N/A.

The reason why people make a point of adding 'K' to their W215 is because the one model had two AMG engines, in this case a N/A V8 and a supercharged V8.

Think it's 02>06 has the supercharger, both designations are often used, the "K" does refer to kompressor. The previous versions are N/A engines.

I agree with you with regards probably 95% of cars posted on here, but having looked and thought a bit harder about this particular E55, it does look a bit rough.

Couple that with how much money I threw at the C32 and it's taught me to be very wary of anyone selling a car that 'only needs a few quid spending to get it back up to good condition'.

Also to add, although the W215 and W211 share the same 55K engine, the level of output is different.
476bhp vs 500bhp iirc.

.

I think you will find yes is the answer, very often with caveats because of the huge knowledge base that forum members have. That surely is the point when you are looking to buy a used car and seeking advice from those who may know more about a specific model than you do?

In this case there were a number of irregularities that woud raise suspicion or doundts about future costs. For example; the car being registered to the seller but being sold on behalf of a friend, no service history but states the mileage of the last service, paintwork correction required on the bumpers etc, the known and listed faults, all of which I agree could be down to a something that may be easily fixed.

In the case of this car the starting bid was £7000, cars such as this have been offered for around £8000 without the range of faults known on this one, with better provenence and with verifiable service history so that is probably why this vehicle attracted a number of negative comments.

a single fault could cost you in excess of £1000, a list of faults could cost you at least half the cost of the car to put right.

As an owner of one of these , i know that if i did not keep on top of each repair or error, my car would be in a similar state and i know how much it has cost to keep it in the condition it is in, and this is with me taking care of it.

A car with a number of faults, possibly mistreated may come up with many more issues than you expect.

Its the buyers money, for £1-2K more i have seen error free, well looked after cars, go for one of these.

Lee- just get it on STAR, W211`s have too many control units to be able to visually check them all.
