W211 E55s for sale

On mine the Sport buttons lower the car visibly when the car is on the drive. Comfort raises it back up again, also clearly visible.
Acid lowered mine on STAR - I wanted it to look a bit lower.

When the sport button is pushed it lowers almost straight away and raises again almost straight away when comfort is pressed again.
This is what I was talking about: the Airmatic DC button that cycles through Sport 1/Sport 2/Comfort suspension modes, rather than the vehicle levelling button which just has Raised and Normal modes.

So button 6 in the attached screenshot, rather than button 7. :)

Can't. Oh dammit! Was there last month but didn't think to ask him about the susp settings. Maybe I haven't been looking properly - it's hard to tell when sat in the car. Will get Madam to press the button tomorrow when I gauge it from outside.

E55 is already lower so the sport setting makes only minimal difference in ride height in comparison to standard cars where the difference is more noticeable. If the car is raising and lowering when pressing "level" button I would not be worried, drive on a town road and change the sport settings it takes about 30 secs for the settings to fully adjust but you should start to feel the difference through the drivers seat as the suspension firms up. The difference is not huge in fact it can take even longer before you notice the difference depending on the road and the speed travelling.

The SL moved around 5" up and down, and did so very quickly indeed.

Engine needed to be running though, if you press the button without the engine running nothing happened.

Front brakes discs for E55K from MB for the pair: £130 incl VAT
Front brakes pads for E55K from MB for the pair: £340 incl VAT

Not extortionate.

Comfort = standard ride height
Sport I = 10mm lower than Comfort
Sport II = 15mm lower than Comfort

Discs seem very reasonable but how much for the pads? :O

Checked and the raise button increases height by about about an inch. However the sport button does nothing while stationary. Checked the manual and it says that you need to be doing 68mph for the car to lower 15mm in sport mode. It is the US manual though :dk:

Yes - this is similar to mine.

Raise car raises it up about an inch. You can feel the ride height change but it is slow and subtle...

The difference in ride height between Comfort / Sport I and Sport II doesn't seem to change when stationary - but as long as it feels firmer when driving it is working.

Have not tried checking Sport I or II height with car stationary .. but I do notice when I have parked up that the car is lower if I have switched off with Sport I or II on when compared to switching off in Comfort mode.

if you are in Comfort mode, the car will automatically drop 10mm if you exceed 140kph.

That would explain my experience of being able to feel the difference during the test drive but not notice the car actually changing height when stationary. :)

To give you an idea I got just over £10k for mine recently, 53 Reg with 69k miles, MBSH except one, there is a decent amount of negotiating to be done with an E55, fuel prices are high, running one isn't cheap and they are slightly older now, more people who want an AMG are likely to buy something a bit newer, so try your luck and you could well find a bargain!!.

As for the car, their fantastic, can't sing the praises of the 55K engine enough, they really shift for a big saloon car, mine felt faster than the TVR Tuscan I owned once it was moving.

Things to check for- any problems with the airmatic suspension, Charge Cooler Pump, engine and gearboxes are strong and shouldn't cause any headaches.

I wish I'd been looking when you sold yours! It sounds like just what I'm after and bang on-budget. :(

Do you mind me asking how much your original asking price was?

I'd like to get an idea of what it's reasonable to expect an E55 seller to reduce it by during the haggling process.

£12k.

I think mine may have been lower too after starting to use Sport II not long after I bought it - but I never measured it because it doesn't change when stationary and I lost interest after that.

Suffice to say, mine is always Sport II now and I bloody well know it on some bits of motorway where I feel like I am sat on a stiffened baby bouncer.

Sorry for your loss :D but that really gives me hope. :)

It's not to bad, I paid £14.5k for it 14 months before, put over 10k miles on it and enjoyed driving it alot, I was considering another AMG but am going to go for a Porsche 1 reason being they hold their money very well.

You will find a decent one for your budget I'm sure.

Perhaps we have slightly different systems - mine lowers and raises from comfort to sport and back again when stationary with the engine running.

I hope so. :)

I've got my eye on a few at the moment but obviously I can't move on them until the M5's gone.
