Hi

I have a problem with the passengers side folding mirror, both mirrors were creaking horribly, but now the drivers side fold out but not the passengers side.

I can manually folding it out and then back in again and there is resistance, but it wont go electronically. Is there a safety mechanism that disengages the mechanism or a simple fix?

Thanks

Sounds more like lack of lubricant. Or is this just happened i.e. frozen?

Try spraying some PTFE lube into the back of the housing around the gears and along the seals

Its quite possible that it was frozen, if that is the case, is there some mechanism that may have disengaged or has something broken?

Is there such a mechanism that would have disengaged, if so, how do you re-engage it?

The mirrors are designed to disengage if hit (cyclists and the like :D ) and should just snap back when pushed to the fully open state.

If the motor ws trying to move against ice or debris then possible it may have tripped the fuse?

Will try to push them back into place when I get home.

Regards the fuse, it it were that, would there be a seperate fuse for left and right, as the right mirror is working fine?

Thanks

I had a similar issue today, the manual states to repeatedly press the fold button so they fold then unfold until the mirror catches and folds/unfolds again. I found my mirror was going to far out and had to try for 5 minutes to get it to work properly.

I sprayed white lithium grease around all the moving parts on mine.
It did involve partially dismantling the mirror to do so, but there was no sign of any lubricant on any of the moving parts inside.
I'm happier knowing that they have been greased now for another couple of years anyway.

A monthly spray of Halfords Silicone spray will cure/protect and stop squeal - also excellent for window runners - clear liquid

Tried my mirrors again today when I got home and they are both working again... thankfully :-)

Regards greasing them, can this be done without taking the mirrors apart?

The mirrors are powered via the door control modules (DCM), so if a fuse is gone all the door functionality (windows, mirror movement, puddle lights) is gone.

As you've discovered the DCM's are smart and will turn off broken things for a while to protect themselves against shorted out or broken wiring - they log a fault so Star Diagnosis can see what is happening
