W211 Glove Compartment

Hi guys/girls
I have a problem with the glove compartment door on my E class, I used to press it and it would slowly and smoothly come down, but now it just drops down.

It obviously sounds like a spring has come out, or the mechanism has given up, any ideas?

Any comments welcome.

Yes, same happened to me recently. Take down the underdash panel and the dash end panel which just prises out. There is a wire with a loop which comes out the damper mechanism and hooks onto the door spike. Easy to see what to do but not so easy in practise. I tied a length of button thread into the wire loop as a pull assist which is then easily cut off.

I have sorted this today, was actually really easy, just a little string that had come out of the mechanism. Have put it in, and got it back to normal!
