W212 6.2l e63 - options + mileage game

Congratulations on your purchase looks fantastic, who needs all the Gizmo's when you have that legendary engine to work with. They are great to have all the same. It's fantastic engine/chassis the combination in the w212. The exhaust note isn't to bad either. 👍

Thanks all, I appreciate the kind words!

my 2 year old was very excited to see it this morning.

I just noticed the front passenger rim refurb paint has started peeling lol... here we go ! Lol also one tyre pressure sensor seems to be missing from the front passenger tyre so I have to weigh up whether it's cheaper go do it here or pay for the petrol to get it back to the dealer 🤣 certainly I'll try to get them to fix the rim paint job

It has real exhaust tips 😱 they're not as cool as the older style oval ones I'm thrilled , can't wait to polish them to a mirror finish shine today

Anyone know any AMG engine specialists in or around Surrey? I want to start thinking about what preventative maintenance to start doing so I can keep this car for a few years eg injectors. Cam shaft inspection , pulleys and all other little bits and pieces

I have used MercServcies for my S204 C63, they are based in Mitcham. While they don't seem to advertise themselves as an AMG specialist, their workshop is always full of them as they are a MB Indy with Star. Never had a bad experience with them over 3 years. They did everything from standard service work for me to, gearbox serving and belt and pulley changes, coolant hose replacements etc.

Not in Surrey but there is a few Mercedes specialist in the south. Prestige Car Service in Horndean, Newtons MB in Littlehampton and John Haynes in Goring are all good garages. Hourly rate of first two is at the same level, John Haynes is about 40% higher

Thanks guys, appreciated!

So a few weeks in and issues galore :
A. Subframe and brake lines rust - back to the dealer for that.
B. Rattle on hitting bumps, possibly anti roll bars or a shock absorber
C. Transmission is slightly slippy sometimes
D. Blind spot Assist sensor is out
E. Engine mounts will need to be done
F. One TPM sensor missing
G. Wheel balancing is completely out , steering vibrates more than the props in a lesbo prn orgy scene, at higher speeds
H panoramic roof netting is duct taped 🥴
I. One set of exhaust tips is recessed slightly , needs straightening

All this before all the work I want to get done on it.

Should have kept the M157 E63s.
That's quite a list of faults. C would worry me.

Mercedes will change the subframe FOC. Transmission can be costly. It is worth discussing options with the dealer before spending any money on the car. If they’re not willing to foot the bill then you can probably return the car for full refund.

Thanks , having driven it quite a bit more, I'm not sure if its the transmission that is the issue or it doesnt seem that serious but TBD. It's absolutely fine when cold, the slight hesitation only starts to come through when everything is warm after a long drive and that very seldom. I told the dealer about it and he said to give the car a good run which ive now done. I did the wheel balancing yesterday and it drives a lot better. One TPMS is missing and that wheel was causing all sorts of issues.

Looking at the service history I can't see spark plugs having been done the last 40k miles. I will take the car back to the dealer , not sure when as im in the middle of a 2 week trip in Cornwall (I already hounded them since I bought the car about all issues, given the service history and their description of the ferrari owning previous owner, they told me I can bring it back anytime. I'll have to take it back for the subframe and brake lines in any case.)
At that point the negotiations about the engine mounts, radar sensor for blind spot and shock absorbers will ensue.

My warranty is up to the market value of the car. My bmw m3 warranty is only up to 1k per claim or something. The dealership is a lexus one and this was a part ex to clear and cost me a tad over half what I sold my other car for so I've got some headroom for maintenance. I'm loving the 6.2, second e63 that I've had with this engine. I get the praise for the 5.5l which is a complete animal but after over 3 years of it with its 535whp and 840nm of torque to the crank, it's just too strong for our roads 90 % of the time vs the 6.2 which you can rev out a lot more. The 5.5 is simply too talented a powerplant as is the 212 chassis which handles incredibly well, so it takes a huge effort to upset it , and very hard to make the most of the engine most of the time. In the end I decided to cash out for an inferior car but one that I can reach it's limits far more often. The 6.2 is a tame little kitten I can bully , the 5.5 was a alpha male lion that could rip my head off in an instant

I'm pretty sure that, if you look at the small print, there will be a per claim limit like your Beemer.....and the total limit of claims will be up to the value of the car.

Agreed but I have the dealership's 6 month warranty which I'm relying on and if they're not willing to play ball, they'll have to keep the car and try and sell it again. There's very little demand for 6.2l E63s so they'll be lucky to resell to someone else

Couldn’t agree more - about both the engine & the chassis - the Biturbo 212 is an astonishing car on so many levels. I’m so glad I managed to experience 5 years and 70k miles in my two, and being able to look back and say “remember when” instead of “I wish I had”.

Haha! You’ll have the M156 Police on your case for that 🤣

I think the term is called, (racing, heritage engine, vs punch you I the back all at once boring soft sounding weapon vs angry elephant that when roars you know about it more fun to drive engine 😄👍

I do find it strange that if the softer sounding engine is so better why do folk move them on. Boring springs to mind. Give me a higher redline any day.

I'd rather have an M113K in the ML... Different sort of car, though.
You bought the wrong ML! You should have bought one of these

and one of these

You really can use that power, you just have to think about it a little more seriously before you do.

With 603hp on tap, every trip out in my 213 is a rollercoaster ride 😂

The 5.5 was a bit quiet in the cabin but only because of supreme sound insulation and I stuck on an iPE exhaust to counter that. The mechanical engine sound of the 6.2 is in a different league, sure.

After 3+ years with the car and over 25k miles, I would have been v happy to keep it another 3 years. Its market value was around gbp35k 9 months ago and dropped to just under 30k just before the election so I took the opportunity to cash out ( reluctantly) so i could buy a car with folding seats and adaptive cruise etc- this was the longest ive owned any performance car.
I don't have a like for like comparison because the w212 5.5 I had was a facelift S rather than a 525hp prefacelift 5.5 and the updates to the facelift S are significant, the car is in a different bracket for performance. When I took the nice chap who bought the car for a drive and the rears started spinning out at 70mph without even kicking the pedal down, it's a demonstration of a pretty damn impressive powertrain along with AMG dynamics reining the rear back in, the guy tried the exact same thing when he drove it and made an offer midway during his test drive. Can't be that boring can it 😅

Better not check out 213 E63's then.
Allegedly even more of an animal than the 212 biturbo car.

For the money I got for the 212, I could have thrown in 11k and got a s213 e63s with 36k miles ( I came close to test driving a couple cars but they were quite far away from me ). I wonder how much power they make on the dyno. The 212 I had was putting 630bhp and 840nm to the rear wheels and I'm assuming that's quite similar power to the 213 except the AWD 213 puts its power down much better putting it into another league altogether. I'm assuming the chassis and handling are also better with improved AMG torque vectoring etc. It's still on the wish list as the last car i ever buy🤣

The 4Matic makes a huge difference in the 213, but it’s still entirely possible to get out of shape if you’re not paying attention. But it gathers pace at such an alarming rate it’s quite shocking (to me at least!).

Cards on the table, I’ve never had the pleasure of driving 212 so I don’t have a frame of reference to compare. Having come from the C63S and before that the only car I’ve ever driven with comparable performance to the 213 is a Murcielago LP640 - which is obviously quite a different experience 😁
