W212 6.2l e63 - options + mileage game

What is it that you believe involves you as the driver more with a naturally aspirated engine compared to a forced induction engine?
The answer lies in your question!

^ That's the kind of answer an MP would give.
Avoiding the question:fail:

Come on Tom, spill the beans.
When you owned an E55 it was the best car ever.
Now its an E63 n/a.
What's the betting your next car will be the best ever?

Don't have to spill nothing to anyone. But the words (engine)
Driver (involved) rings aloud, 😁 😆😆.

My work van is my favorite as is my bicycle 😄

The 55 was a nice bit of kit until I found the 6.2. for my liking I prefer carrater of the engine. It's hilarious I still have to justify this 5+ years on 🤣🤣🤣

You definitely don't need to justify liking the M156, it’s a truly wonderful engine. My question is how it is more involving for the driver than a forced induction engine.

I find the TT 157 rather more involving to drive....largely because you need to be concentrating a whole lot more with things happening so much faster!!! ....rather than waiting for the 156 to spool up! And having never owned either i have no dog on the fight. I'm delivering an E63 212 PFL TT next weekend as part of my side hussle....Sussex to Brum... looking forward to that one! Not looking forward to the return journey though... no car to come back so it's the train on the way back with all the great unwashed....I hate public transport!!!

NA cars tend to have more aural spectrum throughout the rev range with different sounds to play with. They often require more interaction with the gearbox to get the best out of them, rather than easy torque at normal revs. They respond to the throttle more quickly, although modern turbo engines have gotten very close.

I enjoy both, depending on the application. For a big family car I like turbo, it carries the weight more easily and not having to rev it lots suits when you've got passengers. When driving for fun then lightweight and NA gives more thrills.

I get this from my tuned 535i (turbo straight six) and Lotus Elise on ITBs. Polar opposites and both good at what they do but still capable of the other's merits. Meaning you can do long journeys in the Elise (with headphones/earplugs) or enjoy a drive in the BMW. There's a lot to be said for driving a slower car hard than vice versa, for all its theatre the Elise only has 165hp but at sub 800kg it's ample to have fun in.

I enjoyed the M156 in my C63 ppp with LSD ,i also enjoyed the M113 in the SLK55 but neither compare to the M177 although the 156 was easier to drive ,this thing just wants to kill you as for the M3 e93 low down grunt is non existence and was only happy at 5k+ rpm cant fault the DCT box though

Find it very odd a thread running finding holes in a particular engined car. If it doesn't live up to your expectations. Get rid and get the vehicle that you feel is on (another level) 🥱🥱

Perfect for you perhaps.... but people have different ideas of the perfect motors. High torque big capacity turbo lumps always have more appeal to me...and more tuning potential. Don't mind having to rev small four pots to get the power..... done want to have to rev a big V8 to do it though.

Re the M3 from a stop the clutch is slow to engage and an auto is better but when you're giving it large the shifts are very fast, impressively so. sometimes this upsets the traction and the rear can get a bit wiggly but it adds to the fun. If merc had released the 63 models with an lsd as standard, I wonder whether car reviewers would have still given a higher rating to the m3. Perhaps the rawness, heavy steering and handling would still attract them more to the m3, which is pretty mediocre as a daily though but how fun it is to rev out and my kids never complain their insides are being rearranged by the torque on the m3 when they constantly ask me to go faster. Anytime I'd put my foot down in the 5.5, I'd get huge protests.

And yes the 177 cars with more advanced esp and especially the S models can give you that "I'm so lucky to have made it out alive" feeling after every drive 🤣 I used to scare the crap out of friends when I'd take them in my c63s estate with the car just sliding and drifting all over the place in sports+ and esp sport, it's the most fun car I ever had but trying to go fast in a straight line was a challenge, but watching the E diff keep switching power between the real wheels every half second or so is a racket. The car encourages you to get within a few degrees of spinning out before wearing a red cape over blue spandex and rescuing your rear end (quite literally)

I had a 6.2 with slightly more power than the c63s that I used as my daily to keep the mileage down on the 4.0 and the 6.2 was very fast and powerful but the USP was the air suspension and comfort which was simply fabulous. The 7gtronic was quite lazy without rev matching and shifting speed of the 2018 car was so much faster and it was a lot more sporty. As a comfortable daily, the w211 was in a league of its own but as a play toy, that m177 c63s was special. I can see why someone would want a comfy car with bags of torque which goes like stink without needing to rev it out to the red line
