S212 E250 Sport Estate
Firstly - hi :thumb:

Have been using the forum as a source of information for my new purchase over the last month or so and meaning to sign up.

Sadly my new purchase did not go as planned. Not sure if this post is looking for sympathy or advice but it will hopefully serve as a warning to others.

I have had my eye on the W212 E-class for a couple of years now as I wanted a BIG estate for work and for leisure and it also had to look good, be safe, economical etc etc and thought I had found the perfect car at a dealer (not MB but other make main dealer) across the other side of the country

2011 E250 sport in silver
Full AMG kit
7G box with column shifter
Panoramic roof
Real leather seats with memory package
Comand system (only 4.0 due to early 2011 :( )

It also had the 18" alloys so not too big, the speed limit assist option and the rear view camera.

Mileage was 107k but the garage selling it claimed it had full main dealer history and was fully inspected. Car had a few blemishes I wish they had mentioned as they were an unwelcome surprise but it drove well.

Unfortunately it has turned out to be a bit of a lemon and not impressed with the garage. So far having owned it for 2 weeks all I have done is drive it home and to my local specialist (the excellent Avantagarde Automotive in Clevedon).

  1. Rear suspension - needs 2 new airbags. Garage noticed it was dropping before they sold it!
  2. Coolant leak - morning I started it to drive to Avantgarde the coolant warning flashed up and they confirmed the leak
  3. Full main dealer service history - when I checked with MB it turns out the car has 45k miles of missing history so not full main dealer as I was told!
  4. Avantgarde also found impact damage to the floor of the vehicle that had punctured the underbody protection, dented the floor and crimped a rear brake line

Unfortunately it means I have no choice but to reject the car but I am going to have a job finding another with that spec in the 250 or maybe 350

Will post up details of the garage and the car reg when it's all sorted so no one else gets sold this thing.

that's very unlucky of you.

Will the garage take the car back?

I hope you get this sorted out with minimal hassle.

They pretty much have to. Have written confirmation of them claiming it had full service history (email from sales guy) and they also admitted that the rear suspension was going down when they had the car but their mechanic said it was normal for air suspension.

I was unable to drive the car the following day as I needed to put it on my business policy and noticed the suspension had dropped by the following morning. They approved an investigation and repair at a local specialist so I didn't drive the car at all until the morning of taking it to the specialist when the coolant warning flashed up.

The garage then found the damage underneath when they lifted the car up so didn't go any further until they spoke with me.

Awful!! It will leave a bitter taste but keep going. I nearly rejected our current 535d it after putting it in BMW they sorted the issues and gave it a clean bill of health..... 14 months on and it's been perfect!

As people say, buy on condition not mileage and spec..... extra toys are nice but useless if your broken down on a trailer...
