W215 CL500 Offset query

Is there any way you can try them on?
By spec they may look crazy!!!!
Concern about front they say 35 plus in ET for cl's but if the wheels are worth, could get some spacers.
Any pics of the wheels?

By the way don't believe in those charts LOL
Last time was getting wheels for my S and shop were fughting that spec for mine is 8.5 all around I ended up with 9.5 at the rear anyway.
Saw in Germany CL with MAE wheels 11.5 at rear.
Good luck

yeah, that chart is a bit poop, as I had 20x9 and 20x10 on my W210 a few years ago with ET's of 28 and that chard said they wouldn't fit and they were perfect!

Im going to pick these wheels up tomorrow either way, if they don't fit i'll just get them refurbed and move them along - im hoping they do fit though - even if it is a squeeze!

Q about w210.I need to get an estate some time soon.Any chance you remember what tyres U were runnin on them 20's as I have a set laying around.
Thanx

Hello,

I'm looking for some new wheels for the CL and have seen some 20x9 (et22) and 20x11 (et35) wheels - will these fit?

Thanks

In theory and on paper they don't fit. The main problem is the offset of22 which with a width of 9 will stick out by 24mm. If you have a wider wheel on the rears, even more. You are also using a larger dia wheel than standard 18 or 19 so need to use a tyre with a very small aspect ratio to leave enough gap inside the wheel arches.
Thats the theory. Good luck with the actual wheels and let us know how you get on. Mel.

Hi mate, I had 215/35/20's on the 9's and 245/30/20's on the 10's - I had my front aches rolled prior to those wheels.

I've got a few plans to hopefully fit them in tyre wise, and will need to do a bit of tweaking with the suspension links to accommodate them too. Wheels are coming without tyres and need a refurb, so i'll probably not get them on the car properly until next year anyway - no point in running them over the winter.

This is how the 20's sat on my E:

In all honesty, they were a bit of a mission to run as there was rubbing on the back if the car was full, and rubbing on the front when on full lock, but if you have better ET's than what I had, you should be ok!

Im a little sceptical about these new ones after doing a bit of reading, but we'll see what happens! :thumb:

Sweat.
Offset on mine is 35 all around 8.5 front and 9.5 rear.
Will try them on and will see.
Thanx m8

Please go easy on the fitting chart. It has taken the author a long time to compile and is based on information provided by MB and the big tuning houses.

If you have fitted something outside of the chart's limits then well done but bear in mind that Brabus, AMG et al didn't risk those sizes and that's all the chart/author had to go on.

Haha, sorry mean to call it poop! I understand the info given on the chart is factual to the manufacturers specification, with correct tyre sizes etc... its just sometimes something as simple as a slightly thinner, lower profile tyre can make a wheel of a lower offset fit, or a set of spacers etc... which the chart, understandably doesn't take into account. But either way, im not here to start an argument or call the author "wrong", I just want to see if I can make these fit.

et22 x 9" not a chance. Sorry for the speedy response, on the front axle et30 - 8" will sit flush with the arch, et35 x 8.5" will sit just inside the front arch and allow for the car suspension to function properly (as you are probably aware, the CL will continue to lower itself once moving). On the rear axle, (amg cl55 have slightly larger/wider rear arches than 500's and 600's as does the cl65) et35 - 9.5" will sit almost flush against the arch line. HTH

The above references are for cl500's not AMG variants.

Thanks for the info buddy, I think in that case i'll play it safe and save myself a few £ and some let down but not picking these up tomorrow! gives me more time to save for the set I want though I guess!

Really useful info. Many thanks. Do bear in mind that the tyre width also plays a part. A 275 wide tyre on a 10" wide is likely to sit inside the arch exactly the same as a 275 tyre on a 9.5".
I did not know that CL55s have a wider arches than a 600. Interesting. Is there a chart for CL55 wheel fitment anywhere?
Mel.
