Might be trivial but how do I change the rear plate?

Chris,
Some MBs have the rear plate stuck into a black plastic surround which itself is screwed to the rear panel. If yours is like this and there are no obvious screws on the face you can,.....with a bit of care, lever out the plate from the surround....there will only be a few tabs holding it in.

Be cautious not to damage the surround if you use a knife or screwdriver and as you begin to prise away try flexing it away rather than just ripping it of.....which might end in complete failure...;)

ATB :)

Mine is in a surround, no visible screws. Any ideas how I can get out without breaking the thing?

There should be two lips which you can raise slightly (click) enabling you to slide plate out...

As we don't know if you have, an after market numberplate holder which may or may not be lockable, a factory fit surround, or an alternative, posting a picture may be your best bet to get a better answer.

sorry here is the plate

Slide a broad kitchen dinner knife in behind lever gently, as it works free move the knife along a bit further until you can persuade it to become unstuck....

Just be gentle...
