W220 battery drain - help

Dont forget to get a new water seal where the alternator mounts to the block. You will also need some coolant.

Thanks Olly my alternator hasnt got any seal or if it has it hasnt now, but I did forget the coolant but due to not being able to finish it yesterday I bought some home today and the jobs done, yippeeeeee.

How much was did the alt cost? was it 2nd hand or new, mine is petrol so not sure if its water cooled or standard set up

Hi MrD my alternator cost me £300 inc vat brand new, or actually remanufactured by Lucas and my beloved S Class is back on the road, hope you get it sorted.

Hi, well at least thats another s class back on the road, congrats. hope mine doesnt take much longer or I am going to put it up for sale and go back to pre 1995 Mercs

Just another thought do some of the units require 2 fuse to be removed before totally off and not pulling any drain? thanks to anyone who can help

Hi tried all the fuses and pse pump and still no joy, I will not let this car beat me now! anyone have any other ideas? Thanks

I hope you get it sorted...Baterry drain was my biggest nightmare when i owned a jag S-type, checked all modules, fuses, switches, motors, stripped the interior in the end....eventually it beat me and i sold it on....

Suggest you contact a good local MB indie....Good luck..!

Ps. glove box / boot lamps staying on also can cause drain issues...

Hi All, I have been told by my local indy, that it may be the front sam on the right hand side does anyone know if these are just plug and play units ie could I just fit a 2nd hand unit with matching part numbers or do they need some sort of programming/star work as my slush fund is starting to reduce at a fast rate now

I'm having the same problem with a S350 W220.067 chassis, the car is used regularly but the problem pops up about every 6 months, it just happened, a scan tool is showing many faults due to the volt dip, but one that makes some sense is a CAN bus short, but no indication as to where and no malfunctions found. I haven't done any current drain per circuit yet.

Any pointers welcome, I have a good thermal camera so could easily see a fault if I was looking in the correct area.
