w220 S320 CDI Dodgy 3-4 Gear Change

Hi All

Posting this on behalf of my Bro-in-Law. He has a 2002 w220 S320 cdi his 3rd to 4th gearchange has been getting progressively worse, the car seems to hold on to 3rd way to long and then snatches at 4th, I explained I had a similar problem at similar mileage to him (but it was 1st to 2nd on mine) and had the ATF changed which made a world of difference but I'm not sure if the same case would apply with the CDI. He has no rough idle or any other symptoms as both of us said MAF but that may not be the case.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nialler yes it makes no difference on the box,they are all basically the same box, the fluid should be changed along with the filter every 60k miles min, do not forget that the box holds onto the lower gears to warm up the CAT and we are now in winter, and a diesel takes a long time to warm up

Thanks for that, maybe he's worrying unnecessarily and it's just the winter that's doing it, he's had the fluid changed about 3 weeks ago so that's not it and I've just taken her for a decent run, both flooring it and normal driving, held on a little when normal but worked a charm when driving hard, personally I thought it was smooth as silk but I don't drive his one that often.
