W220 S500L 2000 UK HELP 1st Post

Hi,
Just bought my 2nd Merc. Its and S500L, now for the question.
It should have come with the two card key things I know but only got the two propper keys.
It has Gear Knob start, hows it work? Do I need the Credit Card keys?
I would have thought, put the key till ignition lights come on and press botton on gear shift but nothing..

Also if I buy the card keys (used) can they be reprogrammed?

You need to order a new key card to the chassis number.

Used ones will be usless.

Yes they need to be reprogrammed.

keyless go only works with the card

you can start the car using the key by twisting in the lock (as i presume you know)

to start with keyless you need the card inside the car - place your foot on the brake and pressthe button on the gear lever

they cannot be reprogrammed but were far cheaper from the dealer than i expected when i had to have one replaced

off topic, but are these any use to you. (I am not the seller, just saw them and though they my turn out to be good value)

the later cars with KG now work with the standard keys. better than carrying around that so called credit card style key.

no worries - apols it took a bit of time to reply but the answer was at home and i wasn't!

replacement 'key' cost £41.09 + VAT about 3.5 years ago.

Thats fantastic I was told £180 not sure if that inc Vat or not..may very well get them then just so car is complete and as should be.
Local Merc Garage (none dealer) said they can program...
