Hi chaps,
Ive just got my W221 320 CDI 1 week ago and whenever I press the handbrake button, I hear an almighty racket from the back of the car (like gears grinding or slipping - and a horrible smell, which I reckon is carbon burning on the motor bushes) and it gives me an electronic handbrake error on my dash.
I googled the problem, and learned that the motor malfunctioning is quite common on electronic handbrakes, so I got my new one yesterday and had it fitted. The mechanic found that my handbrake system was seized and managed to free it all nicely. The EPB module was checked when on the floor and it worked well... And when fitted it made the same noise and dash error when under tension from the system.
So I am none the wiser, and I do not want to buy a second hand module for at least 500 quid, OUCH!.
Any ideas?... I am now thinking it may be the gear box inside the EPB module doing something!.... and I couldn't find any repair kit for that like there is for the equivalent BMW's...
I would really appreciate your thoughts and any solutions etc.
Best Regards,
PolaBaba.
