W246 what spare wheel?

hi MAGIC, thanks anyway, i was going to have spacer made, i thought the ebay ones, you could fit them off centre, and cause a balance problem or are they better than they look.

When I tried the ebay one the hub center still locks onto the space saver and had no issues centering the wheel or the spacer

you know mate i think thats the best answer, im going to get a pr off ebay, it will be cheaper than having one made. thanks again.

Hi,

Sorry to kick this thread back into life. I have a 2012 B180 Sport with wheel size of 225/45/17.

I've noticed that there is space in the boot for a wheel. Wondering whether a like for like wheel will fit into that space or is the real option to do what is said in the thread and cut out parts of the boot?

Can't the boot floor be lowered, wouldn't that help with storing either a full tyre or a space saver?

Do you have the vario boot floor or the fixed version. I only had the boot on one height so only way I could get the space saver in was to cut the trim and clear out the studs in the the floor. A full size wheel woudl stick up over the trim so couldnt use a full size spare

If you had the vario floor no reason my you could not drop it lowest setting and wheel should fit on top.

How would i know whether it has the vario boot floor? from first glance, it looks fixed but I could be wrong, just don't know how to adjust it.

It's rather strange why you would need to even have to cut the trim and studs from the boot. What's the point of that space if a full size wheel doesn't fit or even a space saver.

When was the last time you used the spare tire? - I took mine out of the Nissan because it was taking up space (and weight).
The Hyundai we traded-in against the CLK had the same spare that was in the boot after 6 years on the road.

I will concede that if I was going to be somewhere that I didn't think I could easily get a replacement tyre, I'd want that spare wheel (even a space saver). However, that's not a common occurrence.

As B class comes with RFTs you dont need a spare , well in my model anway. The space is not really designed in UK market for a space. Maybe things have changed in newer models.

Space is a bit odd kin of well we could put a space server there but lets just make it that 2% smaller so it want fit. One of those stupid decisions marketing dept probably makes

Re vario floor if its multi height you will be able to have it flat in line with the boot lip or lower down right to the bottom. If its non vario it sits just slightly lower than boot lip. with just enough space under for a space saver.

Only problem with cutting the trim is you loose the space where the boot clips so can rattle a bit but price to pay if you want a spare wheel

That is so stupid - so that space is basically useless as it doesn't actually fit any wheel (unless you cut the trim).

Thats pretty much the case. I think its wonders of merc UK as in europe you can spec a spare wheel so I suspect different boot floor or trim. However with the parts manuals being so hard to locate unlike BMW I have never been able to confirm

Come to the conclusion to....

do away the ideal of cutting trim and sourcing a space saver.

Keep with the run flats for the foreseeable future. I mean, the tyres don't actually cost much more than normal tyres.

There's a tyre pressure sensor anyways, so you'll know if there's anything punctured.

if you are in and around london then true. IMO I mainly changed due the the ride quality. Coming off runflats was like changing to new car. All the rattles went away and drive was a lot smoother and more compliant. Been a couple of years and prices of RFT and non RFT are equaling out but biggest pain is they cant be repaired. Not menion in space of 6 months had to have 2 new tyres due to bulges in sidewall from hitting potholes in the roads around here. After going to non rft no more issues.

Also all punctures I've ever had always where repairable but hard find somone to fix a RFT and add to that the bulges from the potholes it was a no brainer. Quick fix to have a spare wheel as had one kicking about and problem solved. If I had not had the wheel woudl have probably settled for can of goo just to get the better ride quality

Anyone know whether storing a deflated or partially deflated space saver would fit in the boot?

If so, what size space saver should I be looking at? Preferably a wheel that doesn't require a spacer and would be compatible to fit.

If you deflate the space saver than it woudl fit without trimming the plastic
I just used a space saver with a wheel spacer from the previous BClass.

But decided trimmed plastic was better than flat tyre

Perfect - I'd like to go the non-trimming route.

Is there a size a wheel that I can get that doesn't require a spacer?

If not, what exactly do I need? Any links to the spacer I need to get? And when you say previous B-Class..

You mean the W245 - so If I deflate that space saver, with a spacer and also carry a in-car compressor.

Then I am sorted - the boot cover will be able to close?

No reason it shouldnt. In my car it was the lip of the tyre that just meant I had to cut the trim. if not for that it woudl have clipped shut. if W245 is the previous model code for Blass (bit late brain at 50%) then yes that was the one

Can you link me the type of spacer I'll need to buy? eBay would be good.

Also, what size is the space saver? in terms of rim and also tyre?

Dont have the car in reach to check the size but its standard space saver that came in W245 Bclass the original one

Spacer was smallest needed so bolts dont need changing something like this Mercedes 5mm Wheel Spacer Shims 5 Stud Spacer x2 | eBay

5mm is enough to clear the space saver wheel from rubbing/touching any of the brake calliper and run smoothly?

Incidentally, the space savers I've found for the B245 are the 16" ... my caris running 225/45/17 full tyres at the mo. These will be ok?
