Waiting for the man

I have had to call mobilo out this morning.

Mrs left for work in the SLK and came home shortly after because 'it's gone all farty'.

I had a go, into drive - foot down - not much happening.

I expect it to be some kind of electrical gizmo, I'm sure that I have read of MAF or MAS sensors or filters?

Typically the warranty expired a few weeks ago, the additional warranty or service contract was around £1k so I took a gamble. This is our 2nd car and does very little milage so services come around only every 2 years.

I wonder if I'll end up spending more than £1k over the next 12 months?

Also, I wonder what car mobilo will give me when the SLK goes in?

Thanks

I'll go and have a look, not entirely sure where it is. I'll take a peek and see if it's obvious.

The guy will be here before 11.

Nice touch, text from Mercedes - will be here 11.20am

Malcolm,

Do you have the same details /drawing for the SL (R230)?

Just in case i need it as it sounds like a good check in the event I have a similar problem sometime:)

bloody typical, mobilo man drives the car - no problem with it!

Hi Brian,

The guy was very good. He did run the STAR checks and the car showed 2 faults.

1-Alarm problem which we have solved by shutting the air vents at night. We live on the coast and it gets very windy which enters the car thru the vents and sets off the motion detector. This was a very old fault.

2-Throttle problem which was tested and found to be within the limits both open and closed. This was also cleared down and the print showed that it was a one-off issue from 3000km ago which was around the time that we last had mobilo out. On that occasion the car went back to the dealer for a new battery, they should have cleared the fault then.

Anyway all faults have now been cleared and the car is running fine.

All we can do is wait and see if it happens again.

Incidentally, as mentioned on another thread regarding data stored by airbag software, the print out of the throttle issue showed up engine speed, car speed and distance travelled for the trip when the fault happened.

As I said the guy was very helpful and didn't mind me asking questions about the checks he was running and showed me all the screens he was using.
He only went a bit quiet when I asked if STAR cold be used for changing preferences that the normal menus won't allow (no that there's much to change on the SLK anyway).

Cheers

MAF faults often do not come up on STAR as other items have shifted from their stored value to try and compensate, the O2 sensor for one
