Hey guys the engine is leaking coolant on my w210 e320 cdi .
It is coming from what i think is called a heat exchanger which bolts to some kind of manifold. It looks like there is some kind of rubber bush sandwiched in between the heat exchanger and a upright water pipe coming from the bottom of the engine bay .
Looked on the russian site(intake & exhausts manifolds) and it is part no 77 and is called a heat exchanger and its the small rubber bush no 89 that i think has gone. Fixed it a couple of times by adding an additive and its lasted over a year but now i think its completely shot:eek:

Anybody had this before and is it hard to fix ? Any nasty surprises in taking this heat exchanger thingy off?

Hope you can help

bump:rock:

Have you a link to the part you are talking about?

No sorry :o i just saw it on the russian site on the exhaust and inlet manifold bit . Its called a heat exchanger or something and its leaking at the bush that goes in the bottom :( . Think its something to do with the water heating the fuel in cold conditions .

You need parts 83, 98 and 95. It is only a few bolts and simple to remove

Cool thanks :thumb: I ll just get the gaskets then . Looked more complicated than it is i guess when you peer into the engine bay . When i enquired about it couple a years ago at the mercedes dealership ,one of their mechanics said i needed the whole thing, came to about 350£ + for parts ! I said sod that and put some additive in it which has held for ages .

Thanks for that

Fixed it !

Took the exhaust heat exchanger off today and renewed all the seals .Bit fiddly but not too bad just lack of room for my big hands:D Can't believe that part no 89 on the drawing was just a simple o ring and that it was causing so much trouble. Old o ring had crumbled to bits and i only found a small fragment left .

Big thanks to Black 55 for his excellent advice :rock:the car's now ready to roar again down the M1 to work tomorrow:D
