Bought a new can of WD40 - on the side it says you can use it to "shine" alloy wheels.

Has anyone tried this?

What sort of technique did you use?

Did it work?

I'd be a bit worried about spraying it near the friction surfaces, so apply with a cloth and polish off presumably?

Thanks

I wouldn't use it if you have alloy wheels, or any where near friction surfaces as you point out. The chances are they are lacquered, therefore use an approved polish. If they are bare alloy then clean with autosol and the apply polish afterwards. At least that way they stand half a chance of remaining looking half good if it has rained!

If they are not lacquered I suggest you consider having them done, JMHO ;)

I use Harley Wax on my wheels and the brake dust and dirt literally just wipes off ...

I would be cautious about spraying WD on the wheels .. the grit will stick to it and all the dirt and you will end up with an oily mess.

I use WD40 as a de-greasent all the time, when repairing/replacing dirty engine parts etc.. so yeah why not on wheels?

there is also a good chance it will end up on the brake disc.....not what you want.

Big no no...Use a proper cleaner.
