We've gone 'up' in the world

............ quite literally, but only by about 8". :)

After the ultra smooth sale of our much cherished 2017 C Class estate I started some 'Obsessive Research' on its replacement. The main criteria was something which would help make Mrs Ants life a little easier being a little higher up for entry/exit. We settled on a GLC so set the AT search. 'Must haves' were The Night pack, 360cam, Driving Assist pack and ILS. We ended up with 3-4 worthy contenders one of which was the GLC43. After much encouragement from a few MBClub members (You know who you are ;)) we popped down a small deposit to hold the car.

On Sunday I took the train from Carlisle-Euston, and an Uber to the garage in Edmonton. The car was exactly as described. I paid the balance and headed north to Milton Keynes for the night to avoid the heavy Monday morning traffic. It was my first time in London (I know ) and it's not for me. Euston Station seemed full to bursting, couldn't wait to get home to my boring life! :).

We're blown away with the car. Is it a real AMG? No! Am I bothered? Not one bit! It's as close to an AMG as we'll ever need. Sounds nice and goes well, the fastest car we've ever owned and honestly a dream come true.

It obviously needs some TLC (AKA a ruddy good wash and wax) But I'll soon sort that out. Unfortunately the side steps, as nice as they look, will have to go. They're more of a hinderance than a help for Mr's Ant (my observation, not hers) I'll look into removal and replace with the standard sill trims. There's also a quite leak on the the fuel tank judging by the MPG back home!!! (That's what happens when you've had diesels since 2009 I guess!) Not an issue given we only do around 4k miles PA.

Thanks to those who helped out with views, comments and advice over the last few months. Very much appreciated and not taken for granted.

I love it Ant, and I’m so pleased that you’re all happy with it. Mercedes know a thing or two about making fast SUVs and I reckon balance of power/weight/size of the GLC 43 is a real sweet spot. You have chosen well Ant-san.

Congrat's But give the side steps a chance, once you get used to them they are very handy, especially if you have anybody vertically challenged in the family, And if used will stop the dirty calf part of your trousers or more importantly SWMBO while getting in and out.

Thanks Tony.

That's a fantastic car suv thingy. I had a glc350 as a courtesy car and loved it , they're so good. A 43 must be next level. Just watch out for those badges, with the extra HP and torque they're going to give the car, you may need to check they don't affect the engine warranty due to power mods and also declare the engine is remapped with the insurers ...

Lovely looking motor, HTA :thumb:

I cannot remember if you have ever used Autotech at Carlisle but Steven, one of the proprietors, is a fan of the M276 engine. :)

Cheers David. 👍

Yes, they’ve serviced my car & van for many years now. I know Richard better (as I’ve done work for him). It was Richard that pushed the 43 over the 350d. I’ve only met Steve and handful of time but top bloke/s

Love using AutoTeck.

That's really nice, especially with a V6 to properly move it along Ant. Glad the Obsessive Research paid off

I proper smirked at the "leak in the fuel tank" line :D

And some proper tyres on it there - Scorpions no less!

Enjoy driving it, cleaning it and listening to it when 'making progress'
Oh, and cleaning it again.....
