Hello and welcome Peter.
I looked for one of these for a number of months, as the specs ticked all my boxes and I'd previously owned a C43 AMG. As I'm sure you're aware, the SLK's are very thin on the ground as only 200 or so were imported.
I eventually found one with FMBSH, 2 owners and sensible mileage and only about 40 miles away, so set off to have a look. All was good until I actually got behind the wheel. Within about 1/2 a mile both myself and my wife had decided we didn't like the seats (the C43 was the most comfortable car I've ever owned), and I didn't like the power delivery. It was quick, no doubt about that, but it felt very linear and didn't even make a particularly nice noise - after the epic V8 soundtrack of the C43 it was downright disappointing. So I took it back to the dealer, handed the keys back and walked away.
So my advice would be definitely take one for a spin (not literally I hope - bear in mind it has 350BHP and a very short wheelbase!) before promising to part with any cash. Hopefully you'll love it, but you never know.
I'm now saving up and eyeing the prices of SLK55's..
Cheers,
Gaz
P.S. are you aware the Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 has the same engine, albeit with slightly less power (330BHP)? With the news that Chrysler are withdrawing from the UK market, prices of those are going to be on their ar*e in a month or so..
