What car did you pass your driving test in?

Austin a40, on a very wet day in Wolverhampton, summer of '73. Seem to remember there wasn't much traffick about! Knew I was coming! How many of you remember the hand signals?

A hideous purple Nissan micra all the way back in January 1989.

A lovely white Rover 111i

It was actually a great car to drive compared to my Panda 4x4!

Progressed on to a rocket ship that was a Citroen AX 11 RE, fabulous car

Took my lessons in a Datsun 120Y, moved to Cornwall then took my test and passed in a Mk2 Ford Escort 1600 sport.

A Vauxhall Astra 1.9 cdti (150ps). The main reason i chose the driving school i did was because i knew this guy had a far quicker and nicer learner car than the others in my area.

I passed first time, but how i did that I'll never know. I drove absolutely dreadfully on the test. I was convinced I had made a "serious error" on more than one occasion but it turned out to be driver errors only.

MKIII Escort. Brand new at the time, having had most of my lessons in the MKII.

A famous line from my instructor: "It's a limit, not a target"!!

March 1983, MK1 Fiesta and another famous instructor line on my first lesson "Right lets see what you can do"

Tony.

Mk 1 Cortina, courtesy BSM. Early one, with bench seat and column change.

But the car I learned in had been badly damaged the day before my test, this was bucket seat and floor change.

Trouble was I'd never driven column change before, so BSM gave me a free extra lesson to get used to it.

^:)

White Renault Clio 1.2
Booorinngggg or what!

Local independant instructor, must have been in his 70s. Mark 4 diesel fiesta in burgundy with a horrible grey plastic dash.

Made the 1.1 106 I had on passing seem like a stylish rocket by comparison

Lovely nostalgic thread

Didn't have formal lessons; took test in Cambridge in very generous friend's 1938'ish Morris 8 - failed! Took test again a couple of months later in same car and got same examiner. It was middle of winter with ice on roads in Cambridge and examiner said "I've seen your emergency stop so we won't be doing that!" Passed that time.

It'll cost you more for me to say what the year was....!

Passed my test in a Series 2 Austin Allergic. (The face lifted one with a round steering wheel!)
My Dad took me out driving in his Lancia Beta Coupe. Loved that car.

My first car was a 1938 Morris 8 Tourer - would now be called a 2+2 convertible. Wish I still had it.......

I'll admit to the year - 1964!

That was my first car test, previous year I passed my bike test on a Lambretta, later that week I bought a 350 Norton....

Then my RAF tests, in a Land Rover, a J2 minibus, and a Standard Vanguard phase 2 staff car.

Then another RAF test, in Bahrain, another Land Rover, just after they had changed from driving on the left to driving on the right!

The checker told me the only traffic rule to remember was "if he hesitates, you go, because if you hesitate he'll go!"

All passed first time

Alright, you shame me into it! It was...erm....1955 (January)!

I too did the RAF tests up to 3-tonner. God that did seem huge. Quite small by modern standards. Then came Canadian Forces people carrier test; can't remember much about the the vehicle but remember the test which was one of the most seriously demanding and realistic tests I've done.
