What Factory options don't you use on your car ?

Back on topic....auto folding mirrors, no point to them at all.

Not round here... an extended wing mirror will not last 5 minutes in our street in the white van morning rush hour....

^+1 and I know I've locked it.

Alfie enabled the alarm chirp on mine.... :)

I dunno man... I like the idea of its ears tucking themselves out of the way as much as possible when I lock it up.

:)

The funniest thing these days is the mini's folding mirrors, as they are round they aren't much more tucked in that when extended :)

True story, at the airport car park, rows of cars were parked next to each other. Randomly amongst the row, there were two cars parked up with the mirrors folded. Pedestrians, too lazy to walk to the walkway through the row (less than 20m away) picked the gap between these two folded mirror cars as there was a gap big enough to fit through. Result? Badly scratched paintwork down the sides of the two cars, as bags were dragged against the them. At least one of the owners of those cars is now much more selective on when he folds his mirrors. :D

The optional extras I never use are the telephone preparation (I don't have a cradle and just use Bluetooth) and the 6 CD changer as I use my iPod and the built in hard drive for music.

I've not used the fire extinguisher (I'm pleased to say).

The AC off button.

Command or linguatronic, should really read the manual:rolleyes:

Was just driving home today thinking that I've never used my heated seats - or ever needed to press the button that flicks down the rear headrests :dk: - In fact I've only pressed the ADS button twice as well

What factory options do you have that you never use or use around 1% of the time etc.

ABS , crumple zones .....

I laugh at them too : on most cars , due to the shape of the body , mirrors project no further than the rest of the car .

Seriously? I find that hard to believe. Why is it that most car dimension sheets have two figures for car width? One specifically mentioning mirrors?

Certainly on the cars I've had the mirrors projected significantly beyond the car's body, Kinda thne point of 'em really

Agreed, I can't get my car through my friends front gates with the mirrors open but goes through with inches to spare with them folded. That's the only time I use them but they are an excellent visual way of knowing whether the car is locked or not.
One of those things that people don't realise how useful they are until they have them IMO!

lingatronic
i have never considered using this, it doesnt seem right:dk:

Perfect for switching radio channels, CD etc. also entering sat nav destinations!

If you have ever had your mirrors ripped off you will appreciate folding mirrors.

Some cars I've had were sort of 'arrow shaped' - wider at the rear than at the front .

Also , due to vertical curvature of the doors , they often bulge outwards below the bottom of the windows , by more than the width of the mirrors .

Certainly with my current crop of cars W124 and W126 , as with W123 and W201 I've recently had , if I park close to the wall at the side of my drive ( I have it to a fine art as my drive is only a foot or so wider than my cars , so I have to park neatly to leave room to walk up the side ) , I get the side of the car within about an inch of the wall ; on the two W126's having this clearance from the nearside door mirror , there is the same clearance between both front and rear wheel arches and the outermost projections of both bumpers , moreover leaving the car with the nearside parallel to the wall leaves it sitting slightly 'nose in' to the wall hence it is narrower at the front than at the back ( this is more pronounced on the 124 and 201 than on the 126 and 123 ) . I can do this accurately every time when I reverse in by watching the clearance between the wall and my rear arch in the nearside mirror then , when I am close enough , bringing the nose in until the mirror tip is about an inch from the wall : this results in all the above mentioned parts being the same distance from the wall .

On my older cars , with much more curvature to the bodywork , the mirrors are now where near the furthest projections of the lower bodywork ; yet sitting above the wider parts of the car still afford good rearwards vision .
