What features would you like to see on W213 2016 E-Class

  • Get rid of the stupid foot parking brake. Don't care if it's electonic or old school in the middle.
.

I suspect this will go, as it's gone on both the A and CLA. Not had chance to sit in a new C-Class, but anyone confirm they moved to an electronic foot break?

The iPad style screen does have a benefit over continuing the cluster across half of the dash, it makes the car feel less claustrophobic and the cabin feel much more open and bigger.
Not such an issue on the S Class which is already big, but on the smaller cars it does make a difference.

I think this is one of the reasons the W212 seats don't go any lower than they do, if they did some may complain they can't see out of the front properly.

Sorry gIzzE cant agree with any of that

The damn thing automatically goes into park when you open a door. Fine except you can't leave it in neutral and push it back and forth in the garage if reqd. Not without a lot of faffing about at any rate. They're getting way too safety conscious for me.

On my E300, if I'm pootling around on Elec drive, as soon as I open the door it starts the engine

As mentioned above, outside temp always displayed would be a bonus.

To the other poster who wanted a sunglasses holder, my E has one under each front seat. I thought this was standard

And as for the heated screen - yes please! Even my Caterham has one

Removal of aged Parktronic, ridiculous dash binnacle menu system and analog clock. It may be IWC but still not impressed.

Introduction of fully integrated audio, nav, climate, seat and car setup display and control unit. To include Real time traffic and on line software/Gracenote DB updates.

Surround camera setup as standard.

Bigger 20" wheels on E63 - my current 19" black alloys look insignificant (Audi RS6 had 20" wheels - looked purposeful)

Soft close doors

Stick all that stuff in the Gadget Show Edition.

I just want the basics done really really right. If other people want to clutter it up with nav and softwaer updates and privacy glass then stick these in the brochure and pricelist.

What I really don't like is that the car is just a car but they are now being sold on fripperies. It's like going back to the early 90s where it looked like cupholders suddenly became the central design anchor and the rest of the car had to be designed round them.

As for 19" vs 20" because of how they look? WT mega F !! You can't see this sh*t when you're behind the wheel of the car. If people are really that worried about this then maybe MB should had the cars over to Armani or Nike or Gaultier to do the various editions for these customers and leave the proper cars for the rest of us.

Had that on a Granada some years ago... great feature.

Presumably Jag acquired the right to use the screens during the Ford ownership era?

Possibly but while the old Fords had a very fine wire mesh in the screen that was visible if you focused on it, the Jag's screen is perfectly clear. A different technology perhaps?

This was my E350....

My wife who is 5 foot 2" was always saying that the dash felt like a big slab in front of her that made the cabin feel very shut in.
She had to raise, the already pretty high, seats to see out of the car properly.

But then the instrument cluster is far too high anyway on the W212, can't even see what speed you are doing unless you move the steering wheel right up.
I believe they did sort this a bit on the facelift cars.

Jump into a 5 series and then a 6 series, the 6 has the raised screen rather than built in screen and it does make a difference.

I agree.

Chances are the window sill level is higher as well - magnifying this effect.

The problem is the way that everything is getting squeezed because of the media displays.

I really hate the buttons for the likes of the climate control and windscreen demisters being put so low. While I don't touch the climate control itself that much I do like sight of the recirculation button and front and rear demisters.

The BMW setup definitely looks neater in the centre but the same problem occurs with the steering wheel obscuring the displays. It can be difficult find a steering / seating position/angle that allows me to see everything in the dash clearly without having to move your head a bit to see things. MB make better use of the real estate in the dials - whereas BMW use the space below and between them.

It's a pity that we couldn't have a BMW central console and dash - but MB laying out actual the information and instrument panel in the dash.

I have a hatred for the rotary controllers for the screens. I think the iDrive style controller was a nice idea when it first appeared but really I think now it's very poor. If they're going to sit a thumping great monitor at the top of the console then remove as much of the media and nav controls and switches and use it as a large touch screen instead.

Continuing my moan I think the 10" screens are too large - they cause everything else to be squeezed and look cluttered. I'd go for a 6" or 8" as maximum. Also what I have found is that if the information is duplicated in the instrument panel that I use that rather than the large screen so it becomes redundant - I suspect this is even more true for those with the HUD option.

A new one for the list for me after this morning again finding I had to briefly take my eyes off the road:

- Move the E/S/M button from down on the left hand by the media controller, to somewhere easier to find, say, on the steering wheel controls (maybe?).

Had the screen heater on my 2008 Passat, so it definitely isn't just in the Ford / Jag axis. The mesh was pretty invisible unless wearing the wrong sort of sunglasses.

1. Qi wireless charging mat
2. Inbuilt/integrated dash cam
