What fuel do you use in your car?

Hi , well Mercedes recommend 99 octane petrol in my M276 engine.

I prefer Shell V Power but recently Esso 99 octane will do.

Have used 95 octane as I trial on one occasion but I am General Slow so no difference in my car !

I haven’t seen a Mercedes requiring 99 RON, only 98 RON.

I remember when Shell gave away wind-up model Ferraris when you bought V Power, around 10 years ago. My kids were small and we got a full set of six, still here on the bookshelf.

There’s a lot of interesting chat on other car forums over the years about this; for example modern Ferraris specify 95 RON and won’t run any better on 98/99, or 100. It seems that 100 is really just an image thing unless you’re racing.

Many high performance cars.... like Mercs with the 5.5 TT 63...do specify 98 plus octane fuel to give maximum performance. They will retard the ignition (once knocking/detonation is detected to protect the engine)......but most engines in this country...even very high performance ones specify 95.....if they are designed to run at their best on 95 they won't get any more performance running on the 98 to 100 stuff as they wont be able to advance their ignition timing far enough to take advantage of it. Makes me laugh when I see cars advertised for sale that are designed for 95 saying "always run on Shell V power" or similar. Basically what they are saying is that they have money to burn (laterally!) and don't know too much about engines!
Also don't forget that when a fuel claims to be 95 RON in the UK....that's the minimum it can be....it could be 96 or 97 under test.

Momentum, simply because I have found absolutely no diffference to V power in either engine performance or MPG.. I have not used the Synergy Supreme enough to comment.....
