What is your real MPG?

Over the last two tankfuls in my E320 CDI, I've covered 1046 miles and averaged 40.45 mpg.

Mind you, declaring fuel consumption is one thing but it doesn't say how you drive the car.

That's true. I always use the tank-to-tank method, even in cars with a trip computer.

The last tankful in my coupe (during a very stressful week) was 16.9mpg. Average over the last two tanks was 20.9

E320 CDi Estate with Airmatic (which should aid economy, allegedly).
I average 36.5 on long motorway runs (according to the computer), with an average overall of 33.5 (most of my driving is an 8 mile commute to and from work, so that hits me hard).

Still, I am a bit disappointed on the 36.5 figure. I had a loan C180 petrol and that did 42.5 on the same long motoroway run (at the same speeds in the same conditions) as my E320CDi.

I always brim the tank as I don't like standing in filling stations.

Average MPG - between 19 (local journeys only), going up to 25/26 (fast motorway driving). No prizes, but don't think it's too bad for a V8.

Cheers,

Gaz

I recently done mine tank to tank about 52 litres between fill ups 270 miles which by my calculations 23 mpg brisk driving and air con on super cold  About 30 miles short on my previous c class which was 300 to a tank full, same sort of driving but no air con.

It reasuring to see how poor the fuel consumption is on some smaller engines. Makes it reassuring that the AMG if very fuel efficient for the size :D

tank to tank.

last tank full, averaged 19.8mpg. this tank full, 20.1mpg.

previous to that however it did a long run up the motorway and scored 29.8mpg

temper that with the fact that it did 16.8 down to london and the silverstone laps on one tank.

<edit> as i am anally retentive, i have every fuel reciept for the 5700miles it has done. so i could work out its entire fuel economy for its life so far.

if i get really bored one evening i may do that!

The mpg on my CLK230 is nothing special, between 20 around London and 30 on a long gentle motorway run is what I get, with an average of about 25 to 27.

I was talking to a friend of mine who used to run a BMW 750i. Despite its 5.4 litres and 12 cylinders, he said it averaged between 18 and 25 mpg. Not bad at all!

Next time I'm definitely buying a large engined beast.

I've had my E 220 estate up to 56 mpg ! Picture of the read-out to prove it (taken by the passenger) but not sure how to upload/attach

went for a drive today.

C270 , 40 miles motorway and town. Averaged 45.7mpg:D

E240

about 19 mpg all urban start stop
26 mpg on A/B road commute
Maximum I ever got was 33 mpg doing constant 60mph

/EDIT

BTW the Whatcar survey has omitted the petrol type e.g. standard octane or the premium which supposedly does more mpg

Sainsburys own brand returns the lowest for me, about 2-3 mpg less

BP Ultimate gives about 1.5-3 mpg more for me.

My best was 37.4mpg going from Stuttgart to Aachen the other week, 80-85mph all the way. Worst was around town in Stuttgart where it's all hills and red lights; got 23.4mpg

All in all excellent for a V6 auto. Average over the last 30000 miles has been 30.8mpg, so no complaints here!

best on a trip 43
average over 16,000 miles 31.6
performance yes

Scumbag, I can go one better  I've been recording my MPG in an Excel spreadsheet for years. My average MPG has been 28.68, which I think is pretty good.

Interesting to see that the price per litre has ranged from 75.5p (Nov 2003) to £1.009 (May 2006)

I must compete with you in the anally retentive stakes. I have a spreadsheet with details of the date fuelled, amount, mileage, price of fuel and consumption for that tankful. Covers 21,000 miles. That made answering the What Car survey a doddle. As at 20,917 miles overall fuel consumption was 38.14mpg.

Recent trip to South West France and back saw avg consumption of 32-34mpg (warp factor 8, climate set to stun). Average since buying the car (just under 8000 miles ago) is 26.6mpg. Must drive on the continent more often..:p

The last tank full I got 25mpg this was a long motorway run with aircon full on

before that, 22mpg shorter journeys of no more than 20 miles.

Worst I've had was 18mpg (driving like a man possessed) and the best was 27mpg (driving like my mother). My average is 22.

Not bad figures for a 5 litre V8 with over 2 tons of car to lug around.

According to my spreadsheet, over the last 39243.5 miles I have used 6104.66 litres at a cost of £5237.21...

Worst 22.2, best 35.5, 29.17mpg average

That's roughly similar to mine (same engine, different car), which on one hand is good as our results are consistent but on the other hand bad as it shows that the lower capacity forced induction engines only yield their economy benefits when not being driven 'spiritedly'.

It's going to have to be a naturally aspirated V8 for me next time I feel... :)
