What non-MB cars would you "secretly" like to own ?

Id really like to buy a 5 series next , probably a 525d , though my wife hates BMWs , so Id reckon ill be getting an Audi A4 or A6 very soon . I just need to decide what to do with my merc , I dont know if I should rebuild the engine for the second time in 6 months or just scrap it .

GTR is stupidly quick but it really does feel like driving a playstation. Every corner you take and every time you poke it you get the sensation that the car is holding it all together for you. I know the C63 flatters the driver as well (in ESP Sport mode) but there is a lot more drama there. Really makes you feel like a hero!!!

After driving it we all decided that for the money, we'd all have a C63 coupe with a performance pack (and youd still save £10k!!!)

Just watched Fast and Furious 5 again, Remember seeing it at the cinema when it came out and when the GT-R was on at the end and through the end credits i thought 100% i was buying that car, its so iconic with everyone and for good reason being so fast.

I narrowed down my choices to either the C63 AMG or the GT-R. In my mind the C63 had to win in a massive way in one section and that was the noise to have any chance of me wanting that instead of the C63.

I didn't really test drive the cars in the same conditions. The GT-R i drove on a track and it ****** on everything else there, i was passing Lambo's and Ferraris, but the sound wasn't good, interior was poor but it was really fast, gearbox felt abit, clunky if that sounds right, wasn't fast enough to change.

The C63 i took out for a test drive on the public road and it was very wet. I was still amazed by its performance but the noise sealed the deal for me.
I have had the C63 for a month now and i still think in the back of my mind should have i got the GT-R but the C63 ticks more boxes. I think if i got the GT-R after its initial wow factor with the acceleration i would have got bored of it except when hammering it.
I drive the C63 with the windows down all the time and even at low speed it sounds so amazing, turns me into a little kid when i go under a bridge by lowering the gears and flooring it.

People have said what happened to getting the GT-R or you could have got a GT-R for that money etc but i think ive made the right choice, bloody wish i could afford both cars lol!

Plymouth Belvedere

Hate to burst your bubble, but if its the film your talking about, its a Plymouth Belvedere your lusting after. (TBH me too) the lesser model. The fury wasn't available in Toreador red and white in 1958 errrr....ok ......I'll get my anorak :D

Wrong !! Its A Fury !
Because I Had ONE :bannana:

You're both right. And wrong (according to Wikipedia)...

Although the car in the film is identified as a 1958 Plymouth Fury, two other Plymouth models, the Belvedere and the Savoy, were also used to portray the malevolent automobile onscreen (Total production for the 1958 Plymouth Fury was only 5,303). Several Fury models were destroyed during filming, but most of the cars were Savoy and Belvedere models dressed to look like the Fury. Director John Carpenter destroyed 21 Plymouth Belvederes to make the film.

In the scene where Leigh chokes on a hamburger, the door lock button clearly goes down by itself, yet the 1958 Fury did not have lock buttons. They required the door handle to be pushed forward to lock them, pulling rearward opens the door.

The car was identified as a Plymouth Fury in the novel.

This one for me...........

If that's the car I think it is, you won't believe how much it's cost to restore as all brand new bits have been used.
I know of another restored DS for sale for £100k which is also pristine but not all new parts.

I would still fancy it, over priced or not. What I wouldn't do is buy it ...

Depends what you mean by over priced!
That is a very rare 'Henri Chapron' special (I think it is a 'Le Dandy') of which only 50 were made and probably only a handfull survives.
They are the same as the DS mechanically but the body and interior was all hand made...

I know that and it is a le Dandy, but there is a nicer one available in blue for less and the red one sold for ~£80k in December.
It looks better in red, but here is the blue one and I prefer the Citroen dashboard to the Jager one.

I've had the use of some nice cars for a few days at a time, such as these:

Ferrari F355 Berlinetta

....... but to be honest that haven't impressed me a massive amount. I would have kept them if they had been given to me, but for the same money I think there are better cars out there. But they're the ones I haven't driven so possibly not!

As for those awful Citroens that people have been raving over on here, I couldn't afford all the sea-sick pills I'd need to stay in one for long - due to the looks and the ride!

When was the last time you rode in one?

About 40 years ago! I can still remember having to go somewhere quickly with my boss who had a DS. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity for the suspension to pump up enough to allow us to set off it didn't seem to bad. But then we went along a Suffolk country road with a couple of hump-back bridges fairly close to each other - the poor suspension became totally confused and continued going up and down for next half a mile! I can only guess that big Citroens are like Marmite .... except not so tasty!

(My daughter insisted on having a 2CV went she went to uni - my knuckles are still white from my first ride in it, that fortunately didn't last as long as the hours I spent under it fixing the crazy technology!)

Nothing unconventional about a 2CV, they don't use hydraulics.

If a DS didn't settle after a single compression or rebound there was something wrong with it. That's the whole point of using a gas for springs...it can't set up a resonant frequency.

There were 2.5 million made and they are in great demand the World over, not least with ALL motoring Jurnos.

I always love this video which demonstrates it well.

I would have to choose:

Bristol 411 series3/4/5.
VW Type 3 Karman Ghia
Ginetta G 15

Porsche 911 GTS 997.
Bristol 406 Zagato
Bristol 404

I think that should be enough to start with

David

1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider
Aston DB4 GT Zagato
1929 "Blower" Bentley 4.5l
Bugatti Type 57
