What wheels to keep for my 2004 E55? - Opinions Please - SEE PICS

I agree with John the 5 spoke amgs on his look the nuts, but you ideally want the 19" staggered CLS ones as they look the ticket, who cares about tyres and ride comfort, its an AMG!!!! :D

Agreed - they do look good, I like the simplicity of a 5 spoke design, nice on a black car too! The 5 spokes on John's are 18's though aren't they?

I had thought about the CLS wheels but thought that the offsets would push the face of the rims out too much. Both my sets inc the Style III's are from the SL so they are already 1/2" wider than standard front and rear. The fronts are EH30 which is the same offset as the standard E55 wheels which makes the wheels stick out 1/4" further, whereas the rears are EH33 and the standard E55 wheels are EH39 which means that they stick out the full 1/2". I reckon that is the max I can go really as much beyond that and they are starting to be flush with the wheel arches at the rear.

Simon.

This is just not going to work. I can foresee all sorts of issues arising as you try and force fit these turbines. Your friends and family will abandon you. A plague of frogs will fall from sky onto your home. Neighbours will shun you. Children will point at you in the street calling you names.

So Mr Turbine wheeled man. Give up now. Let me take them away from you under the cover of darkness. Relieve yourself of the doubt. Be Mr Simon 5 Spoke. Tell your friends that the turbines have gone into the nights blackness only to be seen on my C55.

C'mon you know it makes sense. Just say YES!!

Love it :)

As Confucius once said "money talks" eh Simon?
Looks like you're about to recoup some outlay and they would be going to a good home I suspect.

BTW - you're right, mine are 18's.

You really are trying hard Bruce - I nearly gave in then but the thing is I don't even think they will fit the C55!!! LOL

I prefer the turbines because they are just.........different

I personally think both wheels do not suit the estate at all but the 5 spoke CLS wheels look fantastic!

The multiple spoke ones really look terrible in my opinion I personally thought when mercedes released the SL55 AMG with them what were they thinking! They are just too fussy...

Still its all down to personal preference.

Agree with both comments above. Still think the 19 inch split rims look the best but I am biased

Of the two photo's, 100% the Style III's.

I think 19's would look better, the first thing my son said when I had the style III's fitted was that they would look better if they were 19's but.... The split rims prob do look the best but they are just too costly, and to be honest I'm not totally taken with all the rim bolts, they do look a little fussy, but then I'm happy to swap if someone has a spare set!!!!

Multispokes.
If I could have got them in 19" I'd be putting them on the CLS.
Colin.

I understand why people want to know how the wheels look....but I would be asking things like:
Which are the lightest?
Which are the strongest?
Which will make the car handle better?
Which will retain balance better?
Which have the more durable finish?
Which are easier to keep clean?

But maybe that's just me:o

I think that the turbine wheels really do suit the car, and would be my choice of the two. I like the finish on them too.

I prefer the turbines, they're quite subtle and a bit different. What puts me off the more mainstream AMG wheels is that there are so many replicas on tacky VAG chav-boxes.

I like easy to keep clean alloys,

These are pretty rare and not seen them on another E class as yet, 8.5 * 18 and 9 * 18.

Saw the pics of your car when you had them fitted. They do look good, and like you say rare which is nice. Nice and chunky and as you say easy to clean, to a certain extent that's why I'm drawn to the Style III's.

Thanks for all your input so far guys - much appreciated and sorry I haven't thanked you individually after each post.

Strange as I said before, I thought the Turbines were going to get a real slating!!!! When I look back at what everyone's views are, it is fairly even with maybe the Style III's just shading it. I know its no one else's decision other than mine, but it is just good to bounce things off others sometimes.

I am still of the opinion I will keep the Style III's on the car, even if it is just for convenience that they have now been fitted and the Turbines are laying on the floor! The Style III's are certainly easier to keep clean and will probably last a bit better, which is a real advantage what with our roads and weather. It is just the Turbines just look that bit more special especially now they have been refurbed.

I will therefore probably sell the set of Turbines, so if anyone knows someone who may be interested please let me know.
Front wheels: 18" x 8.5" ET30 / part number: A2304011502. Rear wheels: 18" x 9.5" ET33 / part number: A2304011602.
