I am coming to the end of my PCP on my 55 plated E Class. It's done 58K and is 3.8 years old. The off side from alloy is bubbling from behind with corrosion. Dealer tells me that it's not covered by corrosion warranty and basically it's tough. All wheels need refurb to keep them looking the same. Thats £65 x 4. Arghhhh. Surley such a relatively young car of this quality shouldn't have this problem.

Thanks for your time

If this is a diamond-cut and lacquered finish, then I'm not surprised. It is intrinsically vulnerable. It was evident on my W124 Coupé when I acquired it when it was less than four years old. Refurbishers are reluctant or unwilling to give anything better than a very short-term warranty on it and they often advise against it, pointing out that a good painted finish will look just as smart and will last an awful lot longer. It's sad, because when new the looks are supreme.

If its not that finish but a painted job, then it is surprising and much less acceptable.

Wheels

Had 4 sets of Mercedes "upgraded" alloys in 5 years on our 03 211 E class. All of them were replaced under warranty with no real problems. It sound like your problem is very similar to what we saw; -bubbling and discolouration under the lacquer. The warranty guys up here in Aberdeen admitted it was a wide spread problem.

Get them powder coated

They will last a lot longer than paint.
£75 per wheel in Glasgow, I'm sure someone near you can do the same job.
Colin.
