Where can I buy a relay 002 542 13 19 or 002 542 72 19?

Thanks. (Reason below in case you have an opinion or advice to offer)

The roof on my CLK cabrio (W208) stopped working, which coincided with a rear end collision in January.
I know it's now November but I have been arguing with Direct Line about cause and effect since then and they have given me a desultory goodwill payment and told me it has nothing to do with the shunt.

None of the switches were doing anything, though the windows were all going down when I released the handle on the roof. The 40A fuse (number 13) in the boot fuse box blew every time it was inserted.

So I've read as many threads about roof problems as I could find, removed the pump myself, had it diagnosed by BBA Reman (turns out the motor is OK) and popped it back into the car.

When I put it back in and replaced the 40A fuse, the motor began to turn and the headrests went down, a little. I then tried to operate the roof and nothing has moved since then!
So now I'm going to swap the relay, to see if that helps, before I swallow my pride and sell a kidney to get a specialist to set to with the diagnostics....
Thank you!

If this is the relay on the main controller board in the boot, I'm pretty sure that it is a standard type relay - i.e. not specific to that job.
I think that I have seen posts on one of the U.S. forums where someone has changed this with an 'off the shelf' relay, saving wads of dosh in the process.

Wouldn't getting the issue diagnosed by a specialist have saved you the trouble, time & cost of the BBA Remans episode? Just take it to someone who works on these cars & stop the guessing, which can be expensive.

I would put money on the pump being faulty. I had one exactly the same recently. A new pump is £2.5k

Thanks Grober
I already had it at my local specialist, who was pretty much clueless. Europa in Sheffield are my nearest "proper" specialist.
BlackC55 - "pump" as distinct from "motor"? The motor being the Power Packer unit as shown here: MercCLKRoofPump
Neilrr - No, taking the unit out cost me only my time and the skin of my knuckles. The diagnosis and P&P was £63, which would buy me about 20 minutes of time at a specialist, so it was a better order in which to do things for me.
FWIW, it's a 1998 model, bought two years ago for £4600 and so there's no way I'm putting in a new unit for £2.5k to get the roof working again.

Another thought before I buy a replacement for something that might not be crock - are there any other relays in the car that are interchangeable? I understand the fuel pump relay might be the same, but I don't know where to find it.

Thank you!

A new relay from MB is about £7.50 - a no brainer i would have thought????

I changed one in an R208 this year that was faulty - similar symptoms...

And a true specialist will be able to pinpoint the definitive fault and recommend the best cost effective repair.
If a company claiming to be such, but cannot do they job, they are not true specialists!!

Swapped this relay for the fuel pump relay last night - the car ran ok for about 20 miles, then wouldn't restart. The relay is definitely damaged.

Did the roof work when you swapped the relay?

And what is the relay part no?
