Next Wednesday I have a client who is going for a meeting at the Millennium Madejski hotel in Reading. I am taking them down at 17-00 and staying overnight until Thursday where I will pick them up at 19-45 and return them back to Burnley. What I would like to know is where can I stay where the price is reasonable and the place is comfortable (so that rules out Travelodge !) and what could I do with my day. Any suggestions ?

Depends on what your into
You could go to Mercedes World at Brooklands and The Brooklands Museum next door

Novotel Reading is quite funky for the brand.
The same chain own the place next door (Ibis I think) which is more basic but cheaper and does a decent buffet breakfast - I'd avoid eating in the hotel but being central Reading there is some choice - Very close to train station is that is an issue.

Penta Hotel, you get discounted parking at Q-Park (a 2 minute walk). You can get a beer while your checking in as the reception desk adjoins the bar. Breakfast is one of the best just make sure you ask for a room overlooking the rear of the hotel as some of the rooms are over the IDR which is busy all night. Rooms are clean and bright and turn right outside the hotel to walk to town just a couple of minutes again.

There are cheaper but its is very good value.

The Premier Inn Reading (Caversham Bridge) is literally opposite Greenoaks MB dealership ;)

However, staying there would mean you'd need to travel back through Reading from the Madejski Stadium, which can often be a pain, especially at the time you're arriving.

A nearer and easier place to get to would be the Hillingdon Prince hotel. Probably cheaper too, free parking and an easy walk into the central shopping area if you want to spend time doing that.

I can see the Madejski Stadium from my bedroom window, so if I can help with any other local info, please ask.
