Surely it must come down to Pistonheads, AutoTrader or eBay.
I've never used any of these to sell a car so does anyone have experience of all 3 and is able to comment? Obviously I want to avoid steep fees :thumb:

I think every car I have owned I've sold on Piston heads,

Make sure you take some great pictures and include everything in the add.

Its free also :)

My ML recemtly was sold to a guy from Dubai :)

Pistonheads definitely the best - eBay is a pain in the ass (I have sold 10+ cars on there and while most have been trouble free the stupid questions and offers of swaps really get my goat).

Autotrader is £42 to sell minimum, but worth it, but nothing beats pistonheads.

I would recomend eBay, personally. Put it to auction with a 99p start price and put a reserve price that you are happy with plus the associated fees;)

When I have advertised on Pistonheads, I had nothing but scammers and timewasters.....

Autotrader for me has been the best by far, sold my Evo IX within 2 hours of the ad going live.

Pistonheads whilst the non premium ads are free I found lots of people on there wanted to offer naff part ex's like Citroen Xsara's!

You'll rarely get best price on eBay.

Shame your not selling a C55, Im a ready made buyer for one of them!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll start with PistonHeads. I might be up for a swap/part-ex as I'll need something to replace it with.

Auto trader for me. At least with that you’ve got the internet and the mag, so if someone’s looking for a particular car they may pick up the magazine on their way to work and look through it on their lunch break etc, plus I now it’s only a small minority, but not everybody is on the internet. Also I think the auto trader offer a free picture service where one of their reps comes to your home or work place to take the pics, or if your good with a camera take them yourself, but make them good.

A picture speaks a thousand words............

Oh I don't know Mark, I think being a professional photographer might hinder him a bit! ;)

Or I see he would probably make a good rep for auto trader then.;)
ha ha - just kidding!

A picture speaks a thousand words............

My suggestion to Horrgakx was to concentrate on the condition, service history and general history of the car.

Yes the pics are important but the write up / description more so.

I'm quite interested anyway!

Wow nearly sold already hey.:D
Try gumtree - free adds plus you can up load your pics and literally build a website.:bannana:
For further info on free adds just log on to gooogle and put in free advertising for cars.
(Terms & conditions apply ha ha.................:eek:}

defo auto trader.. trust me on this.. if you have a realistic price, and a good ad, then this is a great platform.. good luck!

Autotrader.

Online only though.

£15.99 for 2 weeks with up to 16 pics and 1000 words.

And use pistonheads too, I have sold a couple through there and always put them on there, but most go through Autotrader.
Sold a couple through ebay too, but always a classified advert and not an auction! That is really important.

Keep it easy to read with main optional extras listed, service history, what needs doing when and, think about everything you would want to know and put it in the advert, this stops people calling who don't want it.

Also list an email address, every single car I have sold has started with a quick email communication, and I normally sell 2 a year privately.
I hate calling sellers as I have to sit and listen to their sales patter for half an hour, quick email, get the facts and if it is right then we speak and hammer out a deal.

i just sold my E55 estate last week.

only place i advertised was on pistonheads, and the first person that called bought it.:bannana:

i only had 3 callers about the car, all were 100% genuine, and all 3 were happy enough to travel from London to me in the east coast of Scotland.

do the premium ad ( £15 i think ) gets you 1 month and 9 pics or so; take time with the pics ie take a bit of time and take them somewhere nice rather than a driveway or a street, do not waste duplicating similar images, get front, rear, sides, sides looking down lenth of car, alloy close-up and interior shots with no crap in door trays etc, it's your ad so do a bullet point list of every feature and extra the car has; you will be amazed how many features you soon rack up with the E55.

if your pics are good, your description clear, it can help weed out the timewasters, whom usually start the coversation with offering you 20% less than the asking price:wallbash:

Hope some of this helps, and all the best with the sale.:thumb:
