Which executive car for <£10k

no one more loyal to brand name than Saab owners!

i bet you he buys a new 9-5.

You/he do know that you can change gear manually with your auto box dont you?
Simply knock the lever to the side one way - or the opposite - to change either up or down the box. Providing of course your speed allows.

Yep, thanks.

99% of the time the auto was great, but it was mostly when going around large roundabouts, that the car shifted from 3 to 4, but then when exiting it shifted back to 3. In a manual I agreed with him I would have just stayed in 3.

I think when changing from a manual to an auto you need to adjust your driving style slightly to accommodate the car's ECU. I've had my auto CLK for almost a year now and think the gearbox is great......it's just a case of getting used to it :)

It's be intersting to test an Audi DSG and see if this offers the best of both worlds.

I know what you mean about the gears, and when i had my Mondeo it was enough to make me want a manual in my next car. In fact I was certain that I wanted the Tip function on the auto-box so I would be able to change gears myself so I at least had the choice. However once we got the W203 I realised how amazing the gearbox was by comparison and have never really used the tip function, and would never want to go to a manual now!

Also there isn't really much difference on the fuel consumption between Manual and Auto - just a couple of MPG I think. On the mondeo, it was something like 7-9 mpg different!

Groan!

He's travelling >100 miles tomorrow to look at this 2007 Saab 95 Aero 17k miles for £10k. Great value when compared to similar cars.

4 months later the search has come to an end.

He put a deposit on a 2008 Saab 95 Aero estate for £12k.

For all the negatives that can be said about Saabs no other car can quite match it's value for money or fuel efficiency for a 260bhp car.

Once a Saab owner, always a Saab owner.

edit: just realised he's going to be spending £405/yr on tax.......gulp!

My E39 528i SE averages 30mpg around towm and 35mpg on the motorway. The new E60's are better with regards to mpg.
