Which month do Mercedes update sat nav maps?

Tried downloading the download manager and

Just getting a 'Data medium not found/ Storage medium not found' error with a freshly formatted SD card in the Mercedes download manager.

Europe maps that may well be original (v11 2017/2018).

Shame MB doesn't make this easier - costs them money to take my car in for hours and update it rather than letting me do it myself, with a courtesy car thrown in with no cost to me.

Will call MB and see if there are any other options.

Cheers
You need to ensure you have the latest version. I used 3.0.10

Thanks, was a fresh install of the MB Download manager from their website

What year is your car? I don't think it's possible on cars before 2018, dealer only.

Late 2016 thanks. Only other option I can think of is downloading maps from an unofficial source onto USB/SD then asking MB for a pin code. Slightly reluctant to do this in case it messes up or takes 3 hours with my engine running!

Best option is to speak to COMAND.UK they will know what works and what doesn't, even more than Mercedes do.

Re the last bit, maps can be installed from media (DVD/USB/SD-Card) while you drive the car normally.

When you stop the car and switch off the engine, the maps update will stop and then resume again on your next drive.

You can listen to the radio while the maps are being updated but you can obviously not use the navigation function.

I found that installing the maps update works fastest off a USB flash drive. On my NTG4.5 the update takes around one hour to complete.

That’s really interesting and useful to know thanks

Mine is a 2015 and I did it all at home - as has been mentioned with the latest MB Download Manager it allowed me to just download the maps straight onto a blank SD card - daft question but have you tried running the MB Download Manager in admin mode (ie right click and run as administrator) in case it's a permissions issue not allowing it to fully access the SD card?

OK ignore that link I posted earlier, I get the same error with that old version I linked too.

Try this one which should download the maps as per my screenshot.

MEGA

Just extract that on Windows and run COMANDDownloadManager.exe, username and password are as per the MB documentation in the previous MB link (DLM/DLM)

That should let you download the NTG5s2 map and then you can try plugging that into the car - it won't start doing anything without the PIN so you can make sure the system recognises the map update.

Saying that did Mercedes give you the license code / PIN anyway as if not you're a bit stuck :)

That's great thanks - now downloading the maps to a USB drive.

Currently not in receipt of a pin... I called my local dealer and they said 'it's not something they can give out... they plug it into the system and it just does it'. Sounds like nonsense to me! Will be trying some other dealers tomorrow as long as I can get the car to prompt me for a pin.

Cheers

Excellent stuff - I've got to admit it does make you wonder why they do all the smoke and mirrors as basically they're putting your VIN into VeDok and getting the license number back which is exactly what the people offering service via unofficial channels are doing (someone at the end of their line works for MB)

With my paranoid head on it's because they're trying to upsell other warranty work that needs doing that can be found during a health inspection which can be billed to MB UK. Or without my paranoid head on it's because they proactively want to check the vehicles for owners to ensure minimal downtime. In all fairness my dealings with Skipton and Harrogate official MB dealers have been very good during my time with the brand.

In all fairness from reading through WIS / ASRA they do recommend lots of checks for the workshop staff to do so maybe good MB dealers really are just proactive.

You should be able to purchase a legit PIN from www.comandonline.co.uk:

It's still in the free 3 year period so the dealer should give the PIN for free at this point though - I got my license for £100 elsewhere when mine was outside of the first 3 years (which turned out to be it's first update even though every Mercedes service sheet had a tick in the box for updating the maps)

Success!

Initially it was a total 'no' for providing a code by the Service Desk - they didn't want to give me a code at all because it had to be done in the workshop. Then speaking to a different dealership's Parts department they had no idea what I was talking about until I mentioned 'VeDok' and then the penny dropped. They still didn't want to give a code because they then couldn't recharge the £100 fee to MB without booking it in.

I pushed a bit harder and they then found out it was totally fine to give me the code to do it myself and handed me a sheet of paper with the PIN.

The maps installed by the time I had driven home from the dealership!

Thanks so much for your advice! A good learning experience.
